Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm moving over to Jerboa from rif and I'm having a hard time changing my phone settings. I'm on Android 10. When I used rif, I could open reddit links - and only reddit links - within rif and stay in the app. With Jerboa, clicking on instances, communities, or user pages in...
You will see the same content unless your instance doesn't federate with another one (due to not knowing it exists or having it blocked).
If you're on one of the larger servers you will pretty much see the same stuff except for maybe lemmygrad which is blocked in beehaw and sopuli but not on lemmy.ml
My experience with the Fediverse has only been through Mastodon, through which I struggled to find a community I really gelled with. Either it was supper overwhelming with meme posts or NSFW, or it was too chill to the point of nothing. Or, it was hyperfocused like FOSS/Linux and became uninteresting after awhile. May try again,...
Even then i think twitter works (or used to) because of the algorithm that kept you getting more content, which mastodon doesn't have (nor shouldn't) but with content agregators as long as you are subscribed to stuff that interests you you only need to hit a certain number of users for content to keep flowing.
It's the difference between subscribing to subjects rather than to people.
Since the reason so many people moved because of the third-party app changes, wouldn't it make sense for a Lemmy app to be made. Obviously not yet since the developers are already under a lot of stress with the amount of new users Lemmy is gaining....
Check out jerboa! Just a couple days ago I would have told you it isn't worth it but in these days they have made a lot of improvement after much needed help from volunteers.
Also you can install lemmy as a progressive web app from chrome or firefox easily and it's also great.
I also hope for a better alternative, since I am used to the experience that Boost for reddit gives, but really I'm not missing reddit at all.
I feel kind of stupid. On the time since the post or comment was posted the minute and month both use the letter "m". I'm on a rather small instance that has older posts and am having trouble determining which is which.
I live in Chihuahua, Mexico, where it usually means dry heat so pretty much anything works but it also means you can use a thing called swamp coolers that pretty much just increase humidity by humidifying air and shooting it quickly. They are incredibly efficient.
Sad part is when it gets humid (in monsoon times) it really doesn't sufice, so an AC is required or just remove as much clothing as possible.
Clothing does help a lot with dry heat, you can use thin fast-drying clothing and that helps evaporate sweat which takes away most heat. Again in humid heat you really can't cool unless you dehumidify with an AC (which is incredibly efficient the more humid the area is, and can be inverted to be used as heaters for much cheaper than gas or normal resistive electric heaters).
In the UK I think your best bet is a reversible heat pump.
Is Apple going to make a Mastodon server? I think that'd be pretty cool. In Apple fashion, it would require an app only available on iPhone and Mac, and this app wouldn't be able to connect to third party instances....
It's needed urgently, I would love boost for reddit to follow as it's so good (although it's not open source sadly) because since Lemmur stopped being an option I had deleted my account here.
how can I set up my Android phone to open lemmy links with Jerboa?

If my account was made in Beehaw, how can I access blocked Instances?
Such as the instances that beehaw filters out? I want my feed filled up with all sorts of diversity.

As a new lemmy user I've got some question?
When I use the https://join-lemmy.org/instances do I need to register a new account for example beehaw.org, sopuli.xyz and other server?...
I like this significantly better than Mastodon

Would love a mobile app, at some point.
