I do not know if it’s true for all countries, but at least the USA and the UK require your passport to be signed to be valid. And I know that when I fly, I sometimes get checked if it is signed....

As a long time Vimmer, I have recently started using Emacs out of sheer curiosity. I chose Doom Emacs as it has evil-mode enabled by default, and do not want to dive down the rabbit hole of configuring the editor from scratch (at least, not yet!)....
My basic approach is: Esc works like in normal evil-mode, and takes me into vterm-copy-mode as well. Without doing that, I have C-w C-w remapped to move to another window, so I can switch to another window for all the rest of my keybindings. And I have C-Esc mapped to send Esc into the terminal itself.
As far as I am aware, grazing animals like cows or sheep poop in the same meadows where they eat grass, but presumably don’t have any problems eating the grass and pooping in the same space. But if humans would eat vegetables that they had pooped on, my understanding is that we would get sick....
I do a lot of text editing for work and there are some phrases that I have to type frequently. What’s the best way to quickly paste those phrases into a document using a shortcut or keyword? I mainly use Kwrite and Kate as i prefer plain text editors and need no formatting.
I do like a lot of meat alternatives, but I was at a restaurant a while back where they had a non-Beyond Meat veggie burger. And it was super good! I feel like it’s becoming a lost art, though :(.
My dad is the opposite: he wants every restaurant to only offer Beyond Meat burgers. He loves them.
Native german speaker here. I have been wondering how difficult it is to learn and understand compound words in German. Also, do you yourself make up your own when needed?
When I was starting to learn German, I found it quite intimidating, but once I started having a grasp of the language, I found it actually pretty easy. The trick is just being able to recognize the subwords. Take a word like Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung: once you know Arbeit and Schein, it already starts being easier to see the meaning.
I really love sci-fi novels and I read a lot of books. I read 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson a while back and that book is particularly interesting to me. Rather than each chapter advancing the narrative of the story, there were occasional breaks where a chapter would have a list of semi-random words which just gave the vibe of...
I wish this was exaggerated, but it isn’t at all. Every time I try to learn Haskell, I end up in some tutorial: “You know how you sometimes need to represent eigenvectors in an n-dimensional plane with isotonically theoretical pulsarfunctions? Haskell types make that easy!”
I started off this year with Go, and after the first three days, I was so happy to switch to Rust for today. It’s one of my absolute favorite programming languages, but I never use it at work, so it’s one of my joys of Advent of Code.

Thank you for sharing this. I also wrote a regular expression with d|eno|owt and so on, and I was not so proud of myself :). Good to know I wasn’t the only one :).
Hello folks! I’m using straight.el for my package management, but one thing that I’m missing is some sort of easy way to see what’s changed, when I do a straight-pull-all. Ideally, I could see which packages that I explicitly have a dependency on have changed, and see either a changelog or a list of commits....
As a follow up, I’ve been playing with Elpaca, and they do indeed have a changelog. You can run elpaca-fetch-all and see all of the new commits for each package.

Your body doesn’t heal itself. Cuts need stitches that must be permanent. Bones need to be screwed together even if just cracked. How you doing?
