cheery_coffee,

You pick any two axes abd extend out to the right, the point where they meet Tak’s you the third axis and soil class.

It’s a very cool data visualization but takes some getting used to.

cheery_coffee,

They have an account but they post bursts of stories and repost them frequently

Clickbait headline and first paragraph

Begin met with Biden, and vague reports described some sort of angry exchange. Begin’s recollections of that meeting were reported at the time in a mainstream Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Aharonot. Some of the details of what Begin recalls Biden telling him are genuinely shocking, but they seem to now be largely forgotten in Israel — especially a hypothetical Biden floated about the United States bombing cities in Canada. “If attacks were launched from Canada into the US,” Biden remarked, “everyone here would have said, ‘Attack all the cities of Canada, and we don’t care if all the civilians get killed.’”

It seems really clear it was an argument against using an absurd example.

cheery_coffee,

My M1 cost enough that I’m not upgrading until like the M8 or M10…

Can you imagine if they released an 5/6k OLED iMac M2/3 Pro in a press release

cheery_coffee,

Apple didn’t have a claim to all small size screens, they were the only ones who ordered them in the first place. So this isn’t their fault, though I do resent them dropping the 13 mini so suddenly (I had expected to pick one up after this announcement, but they cost the same as the newest pro…)

The small phone project is looking for existing screens so they don’t have to design and pay for the tooling to produce them.

  • wifi printer setup for a non-mac user

someone's bringing me their imac, a new brother wifi-capable mfc printer, and their dsl modem/wifi router combo unit. in theory, i should be able to hook up the printer to the wifi (the mac should already be configured for it) and set it up here, even without the modem part connected to the internet (its wifi and local lan will...

    cheery_coffee,

Mostly printing just works on Mac. If not go to Settings (click the apple icon in the menu bar), Printers, and yet to manually add the printer. Macos usually grabs the driver’s and everything for you.

If you’re using a brother wireless and it acts weird with the mac, update the printer firmware. That usually resolves issues (it’s very rare I have any issues though).

I’ve been a Mac user for 15 years and my printer is over 10 years old now but still works perfectly. It gives my wife’s PC hell though…

    cheery_coffee,

Late, but big up for me:

I went against a VP on a major project I expected to fail. They started compiling documentation against me and I’ve been anticipating getting fired the last few weeks.

Shit just hit the fan with that project (in the exact way I expected) and my going against the grain made us the only team on schedule and we’re way under budget. So now instead of having my head locked into the guillotine I’m being asked to share our strategy and get the other teams back on track

    cheery_coffee,

I’m almost in the black, so what’s going to happen is chumps like me will see the trend, buy more, and then the smarter chumps will dump a bunch and I’ll be in the red again.

    cheery_coffee,

I don’t really hope his grandchildren inherit his debt, that’s not fair to them. I don’t know anything about them.

I’m sure they’ll look at how he could have left them enough to live a life of utter luxury beyond the imagination of 90% of people and instead lost it all on this.

    cheery_coffee,

That’s too bad, that’s younger than I figured a pig would live.

I know a few people who will be saddened by this news.

    cheery_coffee,

Realistically I think this will only be used for short (sub 100 years) storage, or archives like a microfiche archive that are in continuous use.

There are quite a few use cases where a government or company might be obligated to keep data for long periods.

I’m curious about the 10,000 year claim, does that apply to the full plate, or is that average time to fail per some unit of data?

    cheery_coffee,

Solidly a “were using AI to do cool things, but those cool things don’t improve our core business” project.

This product only makes sense to exist where Google is trying to show it gets AI, once it becomes more commoditized and integrated with language apps then they’ll be forced to confront the fact that teaching is not just translation, and the expert knowledge of language apps will beat them.

I’m bearish on the longevity of this one.

(The base of this tech does help their business, this front end doesn’t)

    cheery_coffee,

Oh great, you broke the only rule in this community.

    cheery_coffee,

I miss the hell out of my Twitter feed.

It’s dead though, half my community left but it really broke up the network.

    cheery_coffee,

I’ve actually just found myself doing more stuff since I quit reddit.

Question of the week: What was the most clever way you’ve ever used an Apple product to solve a problem?

Hello everyone. With more than 15k subscribers, I’m sure the Apple community has some great experiences to share with others. My question this week is, “What was the most clever way you’ve ever used an Apple product to solve a problem?”

    cheery_coffee,

Automator and Preview are a match made in heaven.

When I got my mortgage I needed to get approval and collate all our documents in one night, I just told Automator to grab all the pdfs in a folder and merge them, it took like 2 minutes to get all our signed paperwork done (after the reading and signing). Plus then I knew I didn’t forget anything we needed, everything on the folder was combined.

I’ve used it for a ton of other things over the years, like bulk photo editing for websites to taking a photo every 5 seconds for a timelapse.

I still find it less complicated to bulk rename files than using Python or bash.

    cheery_coffee,

It was so tragic at the end when Rom-eo had Juliet chew his food for him, which he forgot was poisoned, resulting in her untimely death just moments before his own.

    cheery_coffee,

The board found LaGrange violated the Trustee Code of Conduct and Alberta’s Education Act but ruled she would not be removed as a trustee.

I love our world, it’s amazing. You just get to do whatever the fuck you want, and nobody does anything.

    cheery_coffee,

Gordon Berry, the founder and leader of the Save the Children Convoy, recently gave a speech at the convoy’s Casselman base camp where he advocated jailing police and politicians, replacing Canada’s system of government and referenced themes associated with QAnon conspiracy theories.

You’re not “guilty by association” when you’re officially representing a group calling for treason and sedition. You’re just guilty of treason and sedition.

And fuck Arnold Viersen, the guy should lose his status for inviting known extremists to parliament for not reason other than causing a disruption.

    cheery_coffee,

Janeway is always in fashion at the Risa cabana

    cheery_coffee,

I had meant that in Canada our version of guillotine is the government taking an interest in the issue.

It’s not really a guillotine, but corporations hate when the government takes away their money.

    cheery_coffee,

:( we are a colony country, basically founded to give resources to companies and other countries.
