What blog look do you like the look of most: https://thedent.net/ or https://andynicolaides.micro.blog/ (assume the 2nd one didn’t have broken images).

@andyn I think I prefer the micro blog mostly, mainly the style and the layout. But (I can't think of what this is called) I do really like this section of the other blog:

@andyn Haha, not being arsed is a very valid convern. In that case, I'd go with the option that makes blogging easier.

I just got referred to as a "Java dev" on a work call :sickmsn:

chrishannah,
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

Firstly, I've written Swift, Java, Python, JavaScript, etc. in this role.

But more importantly, because my team is filled with "Java devs", apparently we won't be able to cope with writing even the most minimal of TypeScript.

Pure loser talk.

PSA Jedi: Survivor pre-loads have already begun for PC, and they start tonight on consoles.

Actual launch is right at midnight, Thursday night. Excellent, and not always the case…drives me nuts when games don't release digitally until like noon the day they come out.

@matt I might actually need to get another ssd to play this.

I won’t pretend I know anything about US politics, but isn’t Biden a bit old to be running again?
Like, is there not anyone more suitable? It’s a pretty big country.

chrishannah,
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

Although, while Biden is on the extreme end of this, running a country doesn't typically seem to be a young persons job.

Sort of related, but it appears that the average age of the UK prime minister seems to be decreasing in recent appointments. I wonder if this is a trend that will continue.

I’ve been thinking about my blog, how I write posts, and also about having some form of newsletter, so I thought I’d ask a few questions.

If you would be so kind to answer a few questions, it would be extremely useful. And if you want to add anything else, please let me know!

FYI, my blog is https://chrishannah.me

How do you (or would you) primarily read my blog at the moment?

chrishannah, (edited )
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

If I was to write a regularly scheduled "newsletter", what method of delivery do you think makes the most sense?

chrishannah, (edited )
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

This isn't that important at the moment, but what style of newsletter so you find most useful?

chrishannah,
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

I think that’s all the questions I have at the moment, but I’d you have other opinions about newsletters, I’d love to hear them

chrishannah,

@vaclav Yes, the main feed is at https://chrishannah.me/feed/

For some reason, I’ve always been attracted to the idea of having a newsletter. But my problem is always consistency. Not just the habit of writing, but finding important and valuable things to write about.
I’m also consntaly torn between newsletters, blog posts, and also writing on a platform like Substack.

I need to do some thinking.

chrishannah,
@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev I can do that with Ghost as well, which probably makes the most sense for me to use.
But the line of where the typical blog ends and the newsletter begins has always felt a tad odd to me this way.
But I’m probably making it a bigger problem than it is.

@chrishannah@fosstodon.org avatar

Okay, now this seems very useful.

@clowes Yeah, I haven’t used it much, but I’m starting to think it could be a good learning tool. Or at least provide the foundations for something you want to learn/do.

Haha, yeah sometimes it can seem like a fancy lorem ipsum generator at times. When it just thinks “I know some words that might make sense here”.

I haven’t tried Copilot or anything where it writes code directly into an editor, so that’s the next thing I want to play with I think.

I find it a bit funny (and a bit odd), that for years I was experimenting with various text editing applications, automations, writing prompts, scripts, etc. And now I'd say I write 99% of my blogs content directly in the web editor.
