@daringfireball@gruber
Just me…or was the hypnotherapist (who seemed legit) that Mulaney had on ep4 was the living embodiment of the “…if I’m gonna pay a LOT for a hairpiece, I expect to get a LOT of hair” miscalculation…?
@daringfireball I’m genuinely surprised that a born-and-bred American would use “centimeters” here.
How long has it been that you’ve been thinking “centimeters” for measurements like that?
Even as a diehard metric fan (Celsius forever! 😃), I started grade school in pre-metric Canada so comfortable with both, I probably would’ve said “a couple inches” there.
If you've never checked out your iPhone's "Significant Locations":

Significant Locations (very bottom of first looong block)
If Significant Locations is on, check to see if the recent records makes sense for you. #Apple#iPhone#Security
@davemark Live, work at home. Travel less than 30 days/yr….no “significant locations” for me as far as Apple could figure out.
And count me in the crowd that got locked out of their account.
Just masterful work all around by the brain trust at Apple.
Recommendations for a daypack that A) is able to be stashed into a larger carry on backpack, and B) can carry a MacBook around during the day? Ideally packs and smushes quite flat when empty, but a bit of padding for the laptop
@daringfireball Show me any other non-refurb/non-used $700 laptop that has a double-density (aka Retina) display. Even at $1000, the pickings there are slim.
@christianselig@caseyliss We’re weird. km, °C - I adapted to those easily / quickly (I’m barely old enough to remember pre-metric) - and can move between those and the (barbaric) US measures easily.
Height/weight, though…it’s always “ok - I’m 5’11” = 180cm; RR is 188cm, so that’s 8cm diff, divided by 2.5 = ~3.x, so…he’s like 6’2”. “
🤦♂️
@christianselig Heard some good things about this design. Might have trouble keeping you grounded, though. 😃 (For @lexfri )
I'm sorry, Christian, but there’s just no way I'm going to see "passive home design" and not just immediately think of The Curse; that show near-ruined the term for me.
@daringfireball Note that the NYT story is an opinion piece and seems to be hell-bent on that Dec.26 deadline.
This reuters story suggests that there’s a lot more appeals available to Apple. And the stock market doesn’t seem to be too fazed by it either.
@daringfireball @gruber Contrary to that NYT op-piece stating that unless Biden intervenes, Apple Watch in USA is done as of 2023.12.26, I’d be willing to bet a nicely-spec’d Apple Watch that one will be able to buy that nicely-spec’d Apple Watch on that and many, many subsequent dates.
Not sure what that writer’s motivation was for that pronouncement when there are apparently numerous appeal options available to Apple.
@gruber If you ever thought the little (what - 0.2? 0.3mm?) protective lip on the Watch Ultra was functionally pretty much useless (as I did), you would be wrong.
Wiped out on my bike at ~45km/h, shredded some clothing and skin, and this is the damage to the Watch: crystal remarkably (relatively) unscathed, despite that arm - and ~320° of that lip - taking the brunt of upper-body road rash.
@gruber Collarbone remained intact, so that’s always a win in a bike crash. Nasty bruising on my left hip and arm, but overall, nothing terrible (able to ride the 15km home, so…).
Bike frame (~$4K), though - not so lucky. ☹️
@davemark Spend an extra $50 and get a M.2 NVME and enclosure. Blazing fast. I’d go USB-C all the way - even on old (needed for some Windows apps) 2017 MBP, moving a 90GB VM to it in 30sec is pretty nice.
I went swimming in a local lake today and it was my first experience with a “tow float” that can also store stuff. Pretty cool. I put my phone, shoes, shirt, and the whole small backpack that I carried the float thingy in, in the float, and then swam for 30m with it. Everything stayed dry! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SZ4KV9H?tag=d73fh-20
@danielpunkass But cycling is the easy part. It’s the one sport where you keep moving at a pretty good clip when you stop working. ;)
Find a quiet road…great way to let your brain just free-wander (solved many a car-fix issue while out riding). 😃
I'm intrigued by SmartWool running shirts, particularly because all my synthetic running shirts stink so bad, immediately after I put them on. I noticed some shirts are 100% wool and some haver a synthetic mix. Which is better?
@danielpunkass I started tossing ~1 tbsp. of OxyClean in with my running / cycling clothes wash….did a great job with the perma-stink that was attached to them.
(I’ll also include a recommendation for compression-type base (or only) layer to prevent nipple burn on longer runs.)
