crackajack,

Stanley Kubrick never really had an original screenplay. His movies are based from an already existing story. He reasoned that it’s better to adapt a story that is good but not considered classic, because it means there is plenty to improve from such story.

I see you’re emulating Kubrick’s idea 😂

crackajack,

I can’t remember who it was, but there was a producer credited for greenlighting several classic movies in the 1960s and 70s. We’re lucky if a producer or executive is good at spotting what makes a good story and have dependable crew to make it.

crackajack,

I kinda disagree with the writing being the ultimate decider on what makes a good story) movie. Directing and editing matters just as much, if not more so. Those two brings to life what is written on the page because sometimes it’s hard to imagine what is described on the page.

Why does Spez want to to sell data? To buy a new yacht?

I will delete my data from Reddit then.

crackajack,

All this news is nada if Trump is still leading ahead. Or better yet, put him in prison.

crackajack,

I agree overall with your points, but there is just one caveat: your points are spoken from American and Christian perspective, and there is homophobia in some cultures that are not Christian-based. Majority Chinese, for example, describes themselves as atheists, but they are by and large homophobic. I might be wrong, but I heard CCP is cracking down on fashion, aesthetics and male celebs that might be “too feminine”.

crackajack,

I don’t know the full story of the kid’s family, but some people already realise their sexuality at early age.

crackajack,

It might be called Luna.

crackajack,

I like how unnecessarily bureaucratic this is in terms of immigration.

crackajack,

Humans already named objects within the solar system after Latin words and names. Earth would be called Terra, meaning “earth” or “land”. Many sci-fi stories did this already lol. Luna is already reserved to Earth’s Moon. The other “moons” in the solar system already have their names from Latin like Europa or Ganymede.

crackajack,

We already call satellites orbiting a planet “moon”, as in Europa is a moon of Jupiter. Or Phobos is a moon of Mars. But right now when we say moon, it usually means our moon.

You’re right that in the future we would have to use a generic term for all extraterrestrial objects once we start colonising space. Which is why I think in the future, “moon” will become the catch-all term for the non-Earth moon, while we will call our own as Luna instead.

crackajack,

I’m a person of colour and left leaning, but I find that there is ironic racism from the liberals and the left, as exemplified by this post. I appreciate that many thinkers including Slavoj Zizek call them out on this. There is the idea that persons of colour and minorities are perpetually helpless who need uplifting by privileged white people. Which in effect condescends and stereotype PoCs and thereby exotocising them. It denies the humanity and agency of PoCs to be an individual human who are just as flawed as any of us. This is the modern-day version of “white man’s burden”.

crackajack,

Yes, but there are still blinds spots for many. Trying hard not to be racist sometimes ends up being one.

crackajack,

Many economists already argue that the war on poverty is more like war on poor, and that giving housing to the homeless and unconditional income to the poor actually saves a lot more than putting them on welfare with a view to eventually getting them into workforce. Because of extenuating circumstances too complex to be simply explained succinctly, many people could not find jobs as easily and going on the job market for so long and while under welfare puts more financial and mental strain on those individuals. It costs more to put people on welfare, as you have bureaucracies to pay as well, than to simply give the poor unconditional cash transfers and housing. We’re also in an increasingly automated world where jobs are becoming less common so universal basic income is a must.

I can’t relate. I stopped using the official YouTube app due to ads alone.

crackajack,

Use coconut shampoo! Works all the time, not sixty percent of the time.

crackajack,

The early 00s was pretty mysoginistic.

I originally came from a conservative country, and yet there were plenty of ads for softcore porns in TVs and billboards in those days. Even as a child, I questioned why do they show such images in front of full view to everyone.

The thing is, such mysoginy was the norm without us even realising it. I remember reading an article of a woman reminiscing her college days in early 00s. There were pictures of college girls on pin up boards and they get graded on how beautiful they are. The author said no one thought bad about it but looking back, it was very degrading and also invading privacy. There was also the matter of the infamous wardrobe malfunction of Janet Jackson. She got all the public spotlight afterwards because she is a woman, but Justin Timberlake pretty much got away with it for free. JT also shamed Britney Spears about losing her virginity to him, instead of keeping his mouth shut, while Britney was branded as slut.

crackajack,

Good, you called out the military and I think you’re not the only one who did not fall for it. After all, the US military admit they are having recruitment crisis.

crackajack,

Not to simp for the US military and dismiss the unnecessary lives lost, but I heard most people who join the military opt for non-combat support role. That way, they are physically and mentally safe but get the free education perk.

crackajack,

Definitely a fake story. There are many iterations of this picture with one of them being a “Florida man” who supposedly did it instead. The comment “I’m not saying she’s right but I get it” have different users saying it depending on the meme.

crackajack,

Ever since Twitter became X, I don’t think the instance has ever worked for me.

crackajack,

There are fringe far-left/tankies who support Hamas. They think Hamas=Palestinians. The far-left think they know enough about politics in the Israel-Palestine conflict when they have not even heard of the more moderate Palestinian Liberation Organisation who are worthy of more support for the Palestinian struggle. But instead, the far left loonies support terrorist acts by Hamas believing taking foreigners as hostages-- who mostly have no horse to bet in the fight between Palestine and Israel-- then abusing and raping them is justified and somehow think that will garner support for the struggle for freedom by Palestinians.

Stupid be stupid I guess. Though luckily, these pro-Hamas, far left nutjobs are on the fringe and minority.
