crackajack,

I didn’t even know there is lite version.

crackajack,

Don’t take the Internet seriously. We have Shitpost and meme communities after all.

More than 100,000 protest across Germany over far-right AfD’s mass deportation meetings (www.theguardian.com)

More than 100,000 people turned out across Germany on Saturday in protest against the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, which sparked an outcry after it emerged that the party’s members discussed mass deportation plans at a meeting of extremists....

crackajack,

If you read the article, the deportation plan touches on those who are already German citizens by essentially paying them to “remigrate”. Remigration is often a right wing dog whistle.

crackajack,

I am reading a book on supporting universal basic income, and it provided all examples of the times when the homeless were provided unconditional income and a home. Every cities in the world that did this have been successful in eliminating homelessness.

This is not a Finnish model, it’s common sense.

crackajack,

Greed. And people just unwilling to change from what they have been grown accustomed to.

crackajack,

Tell me how exactly Russia benefits from the prolonged war with amounting financial cost and casualties that future generations of Russians will pay?

Russia is experiencing demographic crisis before the war, and many men either fled or died, and the country have become beholden to China, Iran and North Korea. And Russia has only issued partial mobilisation, but imagine if the entire country then mobilised more for total war just to try to beat another country that is 1/10th the size and couldn’t do so for two years.

Ukraine mobilised for total war already and they’re willing to die for a bigger goal and for their homeland. Are you yourself willing to be complicit to your country’s decline for handful of rubles that is depreciating in value over time?

crackajack,

Russia sanctioned-proof themselves in anticipation of the consequences of invading Ukraine. They have long history and experience after all since the Soviet days of international sanctions. However, autarky always shows to only have short term effect but in the long run, the severe consequences always catches up in the end. Just look at how Soviet Union led to its eventual demise and the war in Afghanistan accelerated that collapse. The war in Ukraine will do the same to the current regime.

Conversely, even though the EU had been dependent on Russian fossil fuel before, the boomerang effect you mentioned is only short to medium term because disruption in trade is always expected during a war. But this only pushed the EU to import American gas and accelerate the EU Green New Deal to compensate for the loss of Russian gas and oil.

With Russia only having 1/5th the GDP of Italy and endemic corruption, the failure to subdue Ukraine is only going to eat at the Russian economy and political prestige. Even if Russia wins or gets concessions, it will be a Pyrrhic victory. Because loss of demographics (Russia is experiencing population decline before the war) will have severe consequences to the workforce and economy, the sanctions after the war will continue to hit the Russians, and the country will become more economically reliant to China and by extension politically as well. More importantly, the claim to stop NATO expansion just had the boomerang effect of just admitting two new nations into the alliance. With Russia tied in Ukraine, they loss influence in CSTO as member states resumed border clashes, especially with Armenia becoming frustrated on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.

crackajack,

Corrupt apartheid wants extremist elements to thrive to justify continued hatred of a group of people…

Where have we seen that before?

crackajack,

The IDF is literally killing more civilians, proportionally, than an extremely racist state (as anti-Japanese sentiment is well-recorded in WW2 America) in a position of total war conducting an unrestricted bombing campaign

Not to whatabout… but the Japanese were killing scores of conquered Chinese civilians long before the Americans got involved. Japan have engaged in xenophobic propaganda against anyone non-Japanese to justify their own nationalist expansionism.

You make it sound as though Japan wasn’t a fascist country who signed the Axis/Tripartite alliance with Mussolini and Hitler.

crackajack,

I get what you’re saying, but OP said America is extremely racist, but the Imperial Japanese was far more racist by the standards of the time.

The US and Japan were racists before and during World War II, but the latter is more racist by the standards of the time and even by today’s standards.

crackajack,

I’m only specifically addressing OP’s particular statement that I have mentioned.

crackajack,

Yeah, but it’s about messaging and PR. Many people perceive Trump to do better especially on economy, even though more debt is added to the national debt during his last presidency. People tend to prioritise economy more than other issues; and Biden isn’t doing anything to market himself and his administration that they’re do better on handling the economy.

crackajack,

I agree that battle of generations is silly, but there is still shared experience and trait in each generation. I used to think that the stereotype on boomers are greedy because they grew up in relative wealth is stupid, because my parents grew up poor in a third world country and did not benefit from Western wealth. However, they emigrated and travelled across the world and earning more than they would have in our home country.

Eventually, I realised that not all boomers are greedy, but some are materialistic. My parents are willing to share but they still have scarcity and hoarding mindset; even refusing to throw 20 year old clothes that are tattered.

Western boomers benefited from post-war economic boom and peace. Non-Westerners did not (post-colonial states in the mid to late 20th century suffered from constant sociopolitical strife) but the economic mobility afforded the third world citizens to migrate and move up the social ladder thanks to globalisation. However, the globalisation has, unfortunately, become not beneficial to younger generations because of outsourcing of traditional jobs and automation. And, unfortunately, this is leading to nativism and xenophobia.

crackajack,

Never click anything from The Independent. They’re clickbait shit.

crackajack,

As much as Lucas is rightfully getting criticised for hammy dialogues and slacking narrative in the prequels, what I love about the prequels is that it’s got a vision and it is wholly original because it is made by an auteur. Lucas created new, interesting and unique set pieces that are integral to the plot. Whereas the sequel trilogy, while they have some original set pieces, most of them feel dead, forgettable and basically remake of previous settings from old movies like Jakku (a carbon copy of Tatooine), the Moon Death Star (which is well-- a carbon copy of the Death Star), and Ahch-To, where Luke hid, is a lush version of Dagobah.

crackajack,

One is oligarchy, one is fascist. American democracy is arguably dead long ago.

crackajack,

Voting for Trump is a statement by the many that that since democracy isn’t working, we might as well drop the pretense and go full autocratic. We’ve seen the death of democracy several times because greed always reigns.

crackajack,

It may well be, but people are looking for authenticity and economic security. People don’t want politicians backtracking and giving empty promises. There’s a reason people from the Rust Belt support Trump and perceives him who “says it like it is.”

The Roman Republic fell because the elites pretended they care for the people, and the people want someone who would do things for them and “says it like it is.” Same thing happened leading to the rise of Hitler.

I’m oversimplifying the reasons for the decline of Roman Republic and rise of Hitler, but the common denominator to democratic decline is growing wealth inequality and oligarch corruption. Sure, even before Trump’s election and Brexit, many analysts have warned of widening gap between the rich and the poor, and predicted the consequences if these aren’t addressed.

crackajack,

Robert Pattinson’s physique as Batman was criticised by the mainstream (mostly by incels) as not being ripped and is skinny, even though experts say his body in “The Batman” is the most realistic built most men would be able to achieve.

Trump Isn’t Bluffing. We’ve become inured to his rhetoric, but his message has grown darker (www.theatlantic.com)

“We pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country, that lie and steal and cheat on elections,” Donald Trump said this past November, in a campaign speech that was ostensibly honoring Veterans Day. “The real threat...

crackajack,

I used to think he’s a harmless idiot or at least fascist-lite. Boy… I was wrong.

The thing is with fascism is that it’s hard to define. Which is why it manages to slip under the cracks and festers deeper and wider without anyone noticing until it’s too late.

crackajack,

We don’t have FDR to save us from extremism this time.

crackajack,

Thanks for the insight. Most of us interpreted the comic in a more negative light (pun intended).

I completely agree with you. There is a book written by a nursing home carer where she collected the advise and words of wisdom from the elders. Pretty much all of them regret not doing many things while they were younger and more able. In hindsight, they realised that the things they have not done are completely innocent and should not have let fear of being judged or fear of the unfamiliar get to them.

So yes, better to have lived a full life even it’s short, than to live old full of regret! So long as you and others are not harmed!
