I started a project a few years ago of visiting every state park in Maryland. I thought it was going to be easy before realizing how many state parks there are!
I've just passed the half way mark now with over 35 parks visited.
One of my biggest adjustments in moving back to the USA is remembering about the great holiday desert from President’s Day to Memorial Day.
Other countries have Easter and May Day to break up these months but I really have to remember to book off some vacation in April. Fortunately I’m taking off all of next week and I am ready for it!
Four new proposals for Earth Science missions have been selected for the next step!
The proposals study gases in the troposphere and mesosphere, measure ocean surface currents and winds, observe the structure of ecosystems and glaciers, and monitor greenhouse gases.
Of these, two will be selected after further design work with an aim to launch in 2030 or 2032 - this is one of the first steps in a long process!
Great first day at the Software for the Science Mission Directorate workshop. Over 180 people taking about software and software policy! Such a great feeling seeing everyone’s excitement and passion around software.
I was feeling pretty stressed leading into the meeting so I’m pretty happy with the first day.
I can’t wait to share the public links to the talks.
I love when we run data challenges with NASA data as it is always amazing to see what diverse, innovative, and creative teams will do!
The Pale Blue Dot challenge saw teams from around the world create visualizations to address the Sustainable Development Goals. There is an entire gallery of results and they used a wide range of data from NASA Earth Observatories.
Also see the link for all the amazing partners that made this happen!
Very interesting to listen to a talk on the Brain Imaging Data Structure by @yarikoptic
It is interesting to see the similarities and differences with the needs from other fields.
Though, I do enjoy that urge by researchers in any field to rename files from their default instrument produced names to something more human readable.
The Earth Science Division is looking for a scientist to oversee a more advanced approach to modeling in Earth Science for human impacts of changes in the Earth system.
This includes leveraging rapidly changing computational environment, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Risk-Based Climate Modeling or Digital Twinning.
@crawfordsm Thanks . Unfortunately our team couldn't find the URL (i.e. it wasn't just me) so we may well be pestering you in an official capacity soon ;-)
