Thanks to @ewjoachim 's contributions at last years DCEU sprints. 🏅

Django's docs now have more [source] links which now link to the source code on GitHub.

For example, see the BoundField docs:

Had a day off today for my youngest sons birthday. And I've not been on slack, just a sneak peek at discord & not looked at my github notifications. I'm impressed.
Tomorrow off as well, wonder if I can manage it again. Years of people asking me things on days off meant these habits became a daily thing. The disconnect has been nice today.

@markwalker happy birthday to your son. 🎂 Enjoy your time off!

It’s looking like I might be in Madrid the Monday before (travelling to Vigo on the Tuesday) 🤔 Anyone else looking that way?

davidsmith,

@carlton I'm going via Barcelona. I'm having the jitters about the flight back where I have 90min transfer time. 🙈

(Ft. Passport control given brexit)

Leisurely sounds 👌

New post, about a new talk 😅

Know your limits: On Surviving Open Source.

I was honoured to be invited to talk to the latest batch of @djangonaut volunteers, and we had a great Q&A afterwards.

The video has just been posted to YouTube.

@carlton @djangonaut

Abgreat talk and q and a session.

I found your comment about the quality of open source packages being higher than that of your average size medium project really enlightening. It surprised me.

I linked this to the comment about putting open source on the CV. It helped me understand why employers would value this so much.

Trying to implement the "gain consensus" approach to making changes to a shared project at work. Yet another thing I've learnt from the Django community. 💚

Yesterday we closed the ordering for my son's school hot lunch program that I'm helping with.
200+ students will be getting tacos, burritos, and churritos!
🌮🌯😋

This was supposed to launch the beginning of school year, but due to lack of volunteers, nothing happened.

NBD, it's just like handling the catering for conference. Still, I'm learning something new and it feels nice to help local students.

Now if I could just make the other parents to write docs, use spreadsheets, use GDrive, etc 😅

davidsmith,
@davidsmith@fosstodon.org avatar

@CodenameTim @mariatta this week we had:
Wife: Where's the PTFA constitution?
A: It's on OneDrive

...

There are no files on OneDrive.

Opened discord the other day... folk were chatting about writing a JSON parser for a HTTP response. This is relevant, I thought.

Then I realised was on a VBA server, not the Django one.

Folk are doing this in Excel! 🤯

I'm an HTML First convert.

I've found a lot of value in Alpine.js and HTMX for front end interactivity and recently I've been really enjoying the ease of maintaining Tailwind styles.

I've also noticed that I'm able to easily throw a tiny bit of custom HTML with Alpine attributes in my markdown-powered CMS-ish system and it just works. No need to make something custom for small one-off situations.

Agree with tests for current behaviour being the first step. I'll start working on that. 👍

I have a lot of questions, so I'm going to ask you at least one.

Who would like to see running the DSF board and why?

I'm asking that to know more about people but also to make you consider it if you're mentioned.

If it doesn't change anything, at least this will express kind words to someone 💚

A few weeks ago developers purchased a local pub which had quite a bit of character and a long history.

After standing for a few hundred years it suddenly "caught fire" and was demolished.

Amazingly the story is still in the national headlines. Don't think the new owners anticipated how much folk can care about local history.
