I didn't expect to spend an hour or two diving into @tailscale's Taildrive (alpha product) tonight, but here we are.

I have several (too many) RPis that I have struggled to get Samba to work reliably on.

Taildrive is interesting and doesn't quite work how I imagined, but I can connect to the same machines that didn't want to reliably run Samba. I can copy and edit files over Finder so I'm calling this a win.

h/t @greg for pointing it out.

Wait... do people actually use LinkedIn?

I decided last night that I should bother with updating things and adding connections since I saw so many people pointing to it while at PyCon, and I'm surprised to see people respond to connection requests in the order of minutes.

webology,
@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@pradyunsg it annoys me too. I hop on to accept requests from friends to keep them from piling up. I haven't updated my person info in several years. I should probably do that, but meh to another Microsoft platform.

📆 It only took me ~5 months to connect my Home Assistant (RPi3) to an external monitor to see why it died.

It turns out it was working, but I had a bad Cat6 cable. 🤦

🤷 I thought I'd already tried swapping the cable, but I did the opposite of , and a few hours later, I had five new cables to try, which confirmed it was a bad cable.

Thankfully, updating wasn't as bad as it seemed to be ~5 months ago. A year ago, this would have taken hours, but everything is updated again.

Also, for consolidating domain registrars.

Would any #Django nerds be willing to chat with me next week about API design?

Specifically JsonResponse, custom json serializers involving like a thousand foreign keys, pagination, DRF. Basically- how to take a very complex schema and render out 100 massive json blobs at a time for core objects. sort of like stripe.

webology,
@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@ben It's a short week for me, but I have an open invite to join my Friday Office hours if you ever want.

I would check out Django Ninja's ModelSchema if you haven't yet https://django-ninja.dev/guides/response/django-pydantic/

They are compelling even if you don't use Ninja to take the edge off of JSON to models and back. The stopgap in their docs is that they assume you know pydantic which is their foundation.

Turning the former pool location into a little bird garden

Hanging bird feeders

@joni This looks lovely. I might move our beard feeder into the mulch. It moves around our yard and seems to mostly kill the grass which annoys me.

Migrated all zigbee devices from Phoscon to Home Assistant ZHA.

I had to restart HA twice for the conbee2 to actually work and edit device entries manually as they somehow have been set to disabled.

Other than that it was fine. Now to setup proper automations.

It also looks like customization options I didn’t even know about exist now :)

webology,
@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@Airmed what do you run HA on?

I have mine sitting on my desk right now to figure out why it died. It was on an RPi3. I have been debating getting one of their hardware boxes both for ease and because it financially supports them.

@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@fallenhitokiri

apologies to @Airmed

re: Docker - maybe that's less effort. This post inspired me to plug it in and everything seems to work sans network. So I ordered a few cat6 cables to see if my cable was bad.

webology,
@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@fallenhitokiri All of my USB-C cables are like this. I was showing my other half why a few of our cables stopped charging with one.

webology,

@ghickman I think it picks up some things, but I'm always surprised when I copy everything in their online app how much it finds. It's typically more grammar than spelling.

Frequent posting with many pics and video clips. Need it to get up and running as easily/quickly as possible. Not WordPress.

had 2,551 in-person attendees and was "sold out”

had 3,393 (Checked-in people).

Anyone know why the tickets were restricted to 1,234 fewer in 2024? The venue seemed massive so should have had room.

I'm genuinely curious what the difference was. 48% more seats in 2019 is a big difference.

The secret to not crashing was to not die despite some noticeable control glitches. This was fun.

This DLC was free, but I wish more games had extra content. I would gladly pay for more Dave the Diver content.

@georgeyk That's too bad. I have only gone on a half dozen or so dredge missions.

I like the collecting and completion aspects. I miss the random missions/quests after beating the game.

I would love to see more chapters, but then again, that's probably Dave the Diver 2 should they ever release one.

🔥 buyer beware. Converting a TextField to a StreamField is a bad time. 🔥

webology,
@webology@mastodon.social avatar

@vossisboss drop by anytime. There's not a ton to add to this since it's probably no different than trying to turn a string field into an int field there has to be some baby steps.

It just really wasn't obvious what was going on but the postgres text to json field behind the scenes made one hell of an error.
