While I personally never downvote anyone for disagreeing, I don't think it's possible, or desirable, to try to create rules around how people use their preference buttons.
But I def suggest going into your settings and hiding vote scores, as that's psychologically better for most people.
Hey guys, just joined Lemmy and noticed that there isn't any searching tool like on reddit. I was scrolling yesterday and saw a cool post but didn't have time to save it and I tried searching and realized that there was no searching feature, at least not in Jerboa on Android. Anybody come up with a solution for this or maybe...
Thanks for your support! We currently have a grant through NLnet, but it's likely over after this year, and we'll have to try to be fully community funded at that point. We might do yearly funding drives as that seems to be a good model that's not too obtrusive.
We'd also really like to add developers to our little coop, one or two especially that have already been making solid and consistent contributions.
As far as running instances, yes please fund your admins and moderators for their time! Reddit notoriously takes advantage of their free labor, but we should be treating our instance runners better.
I really love Boost for reddit, I know it's not open source but I'm sure there are open source apps that are similar enough. Does anyone know how to adjust one of these open source reddit apps to work with Lemmy? I am using an open source android app from f-droid, and it lacks some of my favorite features like tapping to...
I saw Jerboa while scrolling through random apps to potentially install, and became excited that finally there's a REDDIT alternative as well, instead of just Twitter. Mastodon might be nice, but I don't use Twitter, and I probably won't use Mastodon, either. Reddit, on the other hand, oh man......
@nutomic and I are the main devs for lemmy, but we're pretty bad about telling ppl about it... probably the reason we've had slow but steady growth, except for moments like these. It's a huge help if ppl can tell others about it, so we can spend more time coding.
I have never before received so many reactions and comments on my Lemmy posts before, so it's obvious to see, that there are many new members here.
Welcome to all the new! And I'm looking forward to see more of you here.
Cheers!
We've renewed it for several years now, but most of the important activitypub work is done. Now we're focused on code maintainence, performance, ancillary features, and front-end work.
This is a great definition. One term I'd really like to see in there tho is commodification... that we are opposed to the buying and selling of animals bodies or derived products, turning them into objects for human use.
New Reddit refugee here! One thing I noticed when signing up for Lemmy is the lack of multi-factor authentication to protect my account. Just curious if this on the roadmap?
I don't, it'd pry be better to build up the community here. And then in the future if there are enough ppl that would like their own one, I could host that for us.
I'm trying to find !community_requests to request !tf2 but I can't find either on the jerboa app. I joined lemmy.one and deleted my lemmy.ml account thinking you could only have one and now on the lemmy.ml website it says 404:deleted. Any ideas on getting to the two communities?
I'm genuinely so excited to see some of the more focussed communities blossom on this platform as they have on Reddit over the years. Which are your favourites and which do you think could succeed here?
I don't mind the ban too much as I don't use reddit often, but it's probably indicative that the developer plans to stay with reddit. Our door is always open to him if he changes his mind tho.
Reminder to all: Be respectful when disagreeing.
Rule #2 is possibly our most important one:...
Can't Search Lemmy Posts

best way to donate/keep Lemmy running?
hi all!...
Boost for Reddit for Lemmy (or similar)

As a Reddit user for pretty much any topic in existence, I'm so glad that I've found Lemmy!
What's your preferred / favorite pour-over method?
I've been using the the osmotic flow / slow method, but I'm interested to see what other people like.
Vegan definition
I dont see it here, so figured someone's gotta post it. Here is the definition of veganism as made by the vegan society circa 1944:...
Muli-factor authentication for Lemmy accounts

are there a lot of vegans on lemmy?
Just joined yesterday and it seems like these communities are pretty empty. Is there a bigger one somewhere?
unable to find some communities

Which subreddits would you most like to see on Lemmy?

What's your favorite Web 1.0 memory?
Prior to the internet condensing into just 5 or so websites, what do you remember fondling about being online?...
Reddit is Dead, long live.. leddi- lemmy?
It really whips the llama's ass. Post says it all. Foreveralone. Take my upvote. Are we in post-social media yet or what?
Jerboa v0.0.31-alpha (github.com)
The Apollo dev banned and removed all my comments suggesting Lemmy as an alternative to reddit. (lemmy.ml)
I usually don't get too salty about these things, but that seemed uncalled for, especially since I'm on their side.

Ahoy ye scalliwags from /r/piratedgames and /r/piracy 👋 (lemmy.ml)
Welcome to Lemmy, I'm one of the devs and admins for this instance....
