@ivory When I click on "Open in Ivory" I get an error message (see screenshot). The "open" button in the top bar did work though.

Might have to do that the extension doesn't seem to be installed, but Ivory.app is installed on my computer. Just restarted Safari, but to no avail…

Extension-dialog of Safari (nl locale), with Ivory in the bottom left corner under the title “On other devices”.

doekman,
@doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

@ivory Nope.

doekman,
@doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

@ivory Your assertion is correct. And today I tried again, and it works now. The extention is still not available. One thing I hopefully remembered correctly: now the URL scheme on the Open in Ivory-button is "ivory://", but when it didn't work is was a reverse-domain name, something like “com.tapbots.ivory" (not sure about the actual string).

    @jpmens If you click on the (i) symbol of the device (in the bluetooth menu), you can change device type (apparaattype).perhaps this changes the icon too?

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @jpmens You're right, it's not possible. You could reset your bluetooth system, and hope it detects them correctly this time.

    Or perhaps fiddle with the plist, and swap DeviceClass?

    @jpmens Interesting. Still no alternative for signing git commits? That's the only thing I use GPG for I think…

    @gruber Has your code for markdown generation changed? It looks like every code block on your MarkDown syntax page starts with an extra space.

    @ivory Do you have alternative's for iCloud syncing planned? I would pay for it.
    Otherwise I think of stop using the MacOS app, since syncing is messed up to often between iPhone, iPad and iMac…

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @ivory I find it offensive to state iCloud is working well. Not for me at least! My biggest complaint is Timeline position is not remembered correctly between devices. Sync status gives an error, see screenshot.

    I opened my phone this morning and the timeline starts at a couple of days ago. I read my toots on my iPad this weekend, so that is not a correct timeline position. Finding the last read message on my iPad is not too bad, but it takes one or two minutes. But this happens a lot to me.

    @ivory I've read the help text (see URL below), and I must conclude Apple is having iCloud issues.

    @ivory I know it's not related to Ivory directly. But it impacts me, and it will impact Ivory when I won't extend my Mac subscription. That's why I made the case for an alternative to iCloud. But I totally understand when you don't consider this.

    Every few weeks the same thing with Signal for Mac. Same for WhatsApp. Only iMessage gets this right and treats non-phone devices as first-class clients that can actually log in on their own.

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @gruber I liked the previous WhatsApp client better.

    And it’s a bloody shame nobody is using Messages (outside the us that is)

    @ivory When I want to drag a link from a toot to a browser, the whole toot is dragged.

    I'm doing this mostly when I want to open a link in a non-default browser. Left-click + Copy link does work, but then I need to reach for my keyboard. No biggie, but you might have missed this…

    @jpmens Excellent work! You could go the extra mile by using pbcopy when there is only one result…

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @jpmens BTW: you do know Safari also supports OTP via preferences > passwords?

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @jpmens Yeah, I’ve migrated from Authy. Since I use keychain for passwords, I might as wel use it for otp. It’s not always seemless, but it works. Not sure if the otp’s are exportable…

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @jpmens I keep a copy of my Authy export, but it might be a problem for new codes. However, it’s easy to reset 2fa on most services (and I found out at least 4 accounts disabled 2fa without my prior knowledge, which did shock me a bit)

    @b0rk An honest question: why is it people make commits to git while writing, but when publishing (before pushing probably) they have to refactor the commits into other commits?

    It's puzzling to me, why rewrite history?

    doekman,
    @doekman@mastodon.nl avatar

    @b0rk So is it correct your tiny commits are changes that produce working code: these are like snapshots, so you can go back when things don't work out?

    It's my Ivoryversary -- a year of using @ivory (or at least a year of paying for it, according to the subscription renewal email I got just now).

    What can I say? It was a very good Mastodon client a year ago, it's a very good Mastodon client now. 'nuff said.

    @b0rk Your tip “commands that start with a space don’t go in your history. Good if
    there's a password” doesn't seem to be true on MacOS with Bash 5

    @duco @b0rk So it's a zsh-tip, not a bash-tip, don't you think?

    @jpmens And a Spanish ATM, with a telephonic keypad. And is the "000" key a leftover of peseta’s?
