His recent video on the Fairphone is what did it for me.

His “deal breaker” is that the notification sound is too loud? Replacing a battery by heating up your phone, prying it open, disconnecting the flimsy battery cable and prying out the glued in battery is apparently just as easy as using your hands. Seriously?

Which one? The G27/G920/G29 and some others are supported pretty much out of the box.

Not thanks to Logitech but they do work fine.

Y’all remember mumble? Easy peasy compared to discord amirite?

But Mumble is not a Discord alternative, it’s a TeamSpeak alternative.

1440p high refresh rate gamers unite. I have an Alienware AW3423DWF and boy are those new OLED panels beautiful. Expensive but beautiful. I still remember playing Left 4 Dead right after I got it and even without HDR I was baffled by the credits at the end of the match. Just white text floating in nothingness.

They also recently released the AW3225QF which is 4k@240.

They use Samsung Exynos CPUs IIRC instead of the Broadcom chips that the Pis use

Didn’t know there were Odroids with Exynos CPUs.

The N2+ has an Amlogic S922X, CoreELEC is also a fork of LibreELEC but only for Amlogic processors.

There are newer Amlogic chips nowadays but I never looked into them.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

That depends on the SBC.

Most of them boot from SD so you will want to get an enterprise SD card or one for cameras.

The Odroids have an eMMC slot for storage. Most boot from USB as well.

There are now SBC with SATA ports and even some with M.2 or PCI-e slots.

@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

CoreELEC is especially built with Amlogic chips in mind, it includes all the drivers necessary to GPU decode all codecs it can.

The live test you posted runs on CPU, there’s no mobile ARM chip out there that can smoothly CPU decode anything above 1080p so using GPU decode is crucial.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

I guess the processor needs to be an Amlogic for the best media experience?

If you want to use CoreELEC, yes. It only supports Amlogic.

They also support flashing a lot of different TV android boxes and some can be had for cheap so also worth looking there.

Fun Fact: Neue Blitzer blitzen bei uns von vorne weil Deutschland keine Blitzerfotos von hinten akzeptiert.

The chargers work pretty well with a shot from the recoilless rifle in one of the front legs followed by a magazine of the primary gun in the now exposed leg.

HMG + recoilless also works pretty well, rocket in leg and 1-2 seconds with the HMG and he’s gone.

Only downside is the reload time so if you have 2 or more chargers somebody has to kite them while you reload.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

But the HMG is not a support weapon and the railgun is? I don’t quite get the point.

We can take down 4 chargers at the same time with this strategy with 2 people with recoilless. More than that and the orbital laser or railcannon have to come out.

Same issue here, Plasma 6 has broken Flatpak theming in general for me.

Both the cursor size differs between native and Flatpak applications and also the dark mode is not applied correctly in some applications.

For example, VS Code in Flatpak has white context menus even though dark mode is activated:

This game is ported by Nixxes so I’m cautiously optimistic that it will be a good port.

They fixed up Zero Dawn after release and aced pretty much every port since then.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

I mean that depends on who does the port, in this case it’s Nixxes so the port should be pretty good.

If Iron Galaxy does any more of the PS ports I won’t even touch it for free.

If you already have a PC the cheapest way would be to get one of the 4k drives that can be flashed (forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634)

You can then either rip your blu-rays via MakeMKV directly or play them in VLC/Kodi via libmmbd.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

I don’t think the PS3 has a UHD drive (or can output 4k).

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

Maybe it’s just me but a lot of the scenes were ruined with all the anti-epilepsy dimming going on.

Some fights were mostly dimmed so I’m really looking forward to the blu-ray version of this season. Additional scenes are a nice bonus on top.

Just finished the DLC now and for 12 bucks I think the DLCs are excellent. Not worth 40 bucks but definitely worth it on sale.

The double marauder encounters were incredibly annoying and some platform/puzzle segments were pretty unclear on where you need to go. Having to add lengthy cutscenes so people know where to go sort of should tell them that the level design is not up to spec. But overall very enjoyable, thanks for the recommendation!

I played TotK start to end on yuzu on release in 4k with ultrawide and 60 fps mod, little to no issues.

BotW is also very playable now on yuzu, development sped up drastically when TotK released.

Remedy acquires full rights to the Control franchise from 505 (www.destructoid.com)

Today, on February 28, nearly five years after Control’s initial launch, Remedy Entertainment, the team behind the Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control series, released an announcement regarding a deal between them and 505 Games, detailing a full transition to Remedy acquiring full rights to the franchise. While Remedy...

I used those other means but would like to give them money for a fantastic game.

Are there any Windows-exclusive programs you use?

I had to test/fix something at work and I set up a Windows VM because it was a bug specific to Windows users. Once I was done, I thought, “Maybe I should keep this VM for something.” but I couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t a game (which probably wouldn’t work well in a VM anyway) or some super specific enterprise...

MakeMKV: For ripping DVDs & Blurays

MakeMKV is available on Linux as Flatpak and works out of the box: flathub.org/apps/com.makemkv.MakeMKV

Bulk Rename Utility

Probably a tough one since most people will use the command line to bulk rename files. I do use ChatGPT sometimes to create rename commands for me that are more complicated.

Exact Audio Copy

I use Sound Juicer now, used fre:ac before.

flathub.org/apps/org.gnome.SoundJuicer

flathub.org/apps/org.freac.freac

Logitech G Hub I know OpenRGB exists, and it’s good enough for my needs when it comes to LED management, but it doesn’t seem to be able to control DPI presets like G Hub.

Piper can do DPI presets: flathub.org/apps/org.freedesktop.Piper

Mp3tag

I used Mp3tag on Windows and switched to Picard, I like it even more than Mp3tag now: flathub.org/apps/org.musicbrainz.Picard

Paint.NET

Is GIMP really that complex for this use case? I use GIMP to do simple stuff like paint, rescale images, blur things, fill things, … flathub.org/apps/org.gimp.GIMP

Playnite

I don’t use anything out of Steam often but If you don’t like Lutris, maybe Heroic for GOG and Epic? flathub.org/apps/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl

Mod Organizer 2

r2modman has native support for Linux: github.com/ebkr/r2modmanPlus

There’s also support for one-click installation of Mod Organizer 2 with steamtinkerlaunch: github.com/sonic2kk/…/Mod-Organizer-2
