D&D books are still available by themselves from your friendly local game store. You can find them at Target, Amazon, and beyond as well. But the community seems concerned about WotC’s move towards a more digital D&D.
Like, I know it’s better that it was, and it’s probably quite strong mathematically. But… just getting to add extra to your attack and damage rolls doesn’t feel very cool flavor-wise or mechanics-wise. I’m a 20th level character; I want a power that makes me feel like some kind of demigod. Not something that just makes...
I would agree. As it stands, the ability honestly feels more like a level 5-7th ability than a 20th level. A subclass feature could work, but then you risk certain subclasses having bad abilities.
That said, high level abilities for most classes kinda suck in the first place and wotc isnt terribly great at high level stuff imo
So Monk is the one class we didn't get a prior UA for, which means all the changes are totally new. I'm still wrapping my head around it. Martial Arts die increase: good. Martial Arts die not affecting weapons: bad. Step of the Wind buff: good. Stunning Strike nerf: bad but reasonable?...
Saw a comment yesterday that really rung true to me about monk: "We finally have a versatile, interesting monk! .....All it took was for it to be a bard subclass" (referring to the college of dance, which gets unarmored defense and unarmed strikes)
On a serious note, though, overall the monk is pretty bleh IMO. It nerfed the monks strongest ability (stunning strike), which was not unexpected, but it gets little in the way to make up for it, which i feel is going to leave the monk behind overall.
At least 4 elements looks like it could actually be fun, now.
A dagger is a simple weapon. It also uses your martial arts die for damage, just as it would today for Dedicated Weapon or Kensai.
Actually, new monk loses the ability to use their martial arts die in place of a weapon's damage.
New Monk:
Martial Arts Die. You can roll a d6 in place of the normal damage of your Unarmed Strike. This die changes as you gain Monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table
Old monk:
When you use the Attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon on your turn, you can make one unarmed strike as a bonus action. For example, if you take the Attack action and attack with a quarterstaff, you can also make an unarmed strike as a bonus action, assuming you haven't already taken a bonus action this turn.

You already have 5 levels of fighter, you probably won't ever be "useless" in combat. That said, from an optimization standpoint, PDK is already considered one of the worst fighter subclasses, but you still have the basic kit of the fighter.
Two attacks, action surge, heavy armor, and high HP will go a long way to shore up any issues for a long while.
As for the multiclass, neither is particularly optimized, but they can still work. Of the two, I would probably go with the sorcerer anyways, pick up spells like shield, absorb elements, etc. Use quicken to cast a spell and make a full round of attacks, or action surge to cast two spells.
Overall, it won't be optimized, but it should still work fine. Your only sticking point is the amount of stats you're going to want to have, str, dex, con, and cha are all reasonably important.
So I play an Ancients Paladin in one of my games and have the 7th lvl feature, which is resistance to magic damage caused by spells. Sounds great on paper....
there are precedents for things interacting with "magical damage", such as heavy armor master. That's what removing the "from spells" portion of the ability would do, though "magical damage" is a little bit vague and requires the DM to make judgement calls pretty often.

Yes, the networks all "federate" together. Basically they all talk to each other and share information. For the networks to see each other, though, they need to be made aware of each other, which can take a bit of poking around to do.
As for seeing different communities in one page: Yes. Go to the home page of any instance and click on the "all" button at the top (right next to local). There's also a button to only see a feed from communties you are subscribed to (both locally and on other servers)
Edit: and looks like we're already federated with pathfiner.social, so you can see and subscribe to all their communities with your account here. You can just use the search feature at the top to find em.
yep, basically. The "/c/" is literally the equal of "/r/" on reddit. If the community is local, then the "@" part can be omitted. So like the dndnext community here is just https://ttrpg.network/c/dndnext
