So growing up, I had this idea that the American dream was about that if you put in an honest amount of work, you would be rewarded with a good life. This would mean you would be able to take care of yourself and your family, afford a car and a house. In my view, working one job would probably be enough....
The study involved linguists and geneticists, and estimated the family to be around 8100 years old, with five main branches splitting off 7000 years ago or so. That fits neither the Kurgan/Steppe hypothesis nor the farming/Anatolian one. Instead the authors propose a hybrid hypothesis, with PIE spreading initially from the...
Chinese demand for nickel, an important ingredient in EV batteries, has triggered a mining boom in the remote regions of Indonesia. The country has signed over a dozen deals worth more than $15 billion with suppliers for EV giants like Tesla and Hyundai Motor, but deaths and injuries from industrial accidents have been racking...
From what I’ve seen, writing was independently invented somewhere between 3 to 6 times. With so many languages and linguistic communities, why have so few independently invented writing?
I am 18 and till this day I have never been inside a cinema, its not like i dont watch movies. Who the fuck cares if someone isn’t into trans people? We’ve heard it a million times. It’s transphobic because 9 times out of 10, the person saying it isn’t just neutrally expressing a presence they happen to have; they’re saying it because it’s a more socially acceptable way to talk about how disgusting they find our bodies.
That is very clearly not what I’m saying. That’s not transphobic, but constantly talking about it and shouting how disgusting you find trans bodies and how you’d never fuck them is transphobic. Nobody online cares about your sexual preference; it only matters to your sex partners.
Here’s another one: Capitalists want to pay their workers as little as they can get away with. But they want workers to spend as much money on their products as possible.
So any given capitalist will underpay their own workers for short-term profit and expect workers to spend extra money on their products. But those workers’ employers do the same thing, so those workers don’t have enough spending money left over to buy their products. At a large scale, this is not a sustainable system.
Edit: I don’t mean they sound the same I mean the word arse is pronounced how I figured British would pronounce ass with the drawn r rather than the way arse is pronounced (at least where I’m from) it’s a hard r

I have always liked open world games as a concept, but I have a very bad sense of direction. So whenever I play open world games I keep getting lost and frustrated. Eventually getting bored and dropping the game. I am curious how other people with bad sense of direction cope with this problem.
It's the same as with Linux, GIMP, LibreOffice or OnlyOffice. Some people are so used to their routines that they expect everything to work the same and get easily pissed when not.
I continuously grapple with this intricate web of thought that intertwines infinity, atomic structure, and consciousness. It’s predicated on the assumption that if time truly is infinite, then there isn’t just a probability, but an inevitability, that all the matter in the universe will align exactly as they are now....
What are some good comedy series to watch lately ?
Recently I binge watched Abbot Elementary, and I couldn’t get enough of it, watched the British version of ghosts and it was quite good too....
Did the "American dream" change over time, or was it just my interpretation of it?
