ok, :thread: time.

Been planning a few road trips and contemplated getting a proper EV (vrs the leaf).

Cost of car + electrons etc vrs Mevo is ASTONISHING.

Feels more expensive cos I see the bill vrs "the car payment went out this month, right?"

Needless to say: keep the leaf + use Mevo :)

(Yes, I have a referral but that’s not the point here: https://join.mevo.co.nz/refer/nicw1)

Turns out:

Don’t use a USB SSD to install windows from. Use a USB key. Always.

Get the ISO from the Image Maker thing not the ISO download if you can.

Making the image on a Mac works but you must use MBR not GPT partitions

Resist the urge to yeet the machine out a window.

Having a USBC Ethernet adapter is handy when the OS setup can’t see your network card

Ok. So if I was going to get a 42ish inch “TV”, why wouldn’t I just get a 42inch monitor?

Similar cost. Not “smart” (we only have Apple TV - never use broadcast via antenna/sat). I don’t really care about HDR.

Did I miss something?

Boo. Forgot to specify "cat is a chonk” when we got our double glazing, so the holes are 220mm - which is too small for a “large cat/small dog” door. He can get thru, but it’s …. tight.

Not sure I want to spend $800++ + the alu panel for a new double glazed panel either…. Might just be opening the doors a lot for him.

Fun covid datapoint.

I had it in 2022. Leonie had it last in mid 2023, and while I never tested +ve, I had the worst cold a week after, for 3 weeks. (I tested a LOT that month)

Funny thing tho. Since then my palette has changed.

I don’t like red wine much (used to be all I drank). I do like white (hated it before, largely). I dislike dark beer (all I used to drink). I like (within limits) normal beer.

WTAF. Also RIP my mostly red wine cellar

Need to test some other things like meat…

If they were not going to be $allthemoney I’d get two. And dump our tv. Perfect for our small house.

Daniel Craig Bonds > mission impossibles >>>>>>> all the other Bonds

Been enjoying the hell out of M:I this week. Never found an old bond which was even watchable.

Finally caved and bought a new TV. Old was a 2013-era 720p 32” Sony. New one is “Smart” 43” 4K TCL. $500 from Costco

It will never be on the network. It’s a dumb panel for the Apple TV.

So far so good. ECE appears to work (power on/off, volume). Has a “basic” mode which disables GoogleTV. Can tell it to start on previous port. Headphone out for our Tivoli

And yes TCL had a security thing. But without wifi or Ethernet that’s not really an issue.

Anyone I know out there using containers (esp node) for lambda deployment?

The build and rollback story is very attractive…

Any kiwis on here using Quic for their fibre?

Price and philosophy looks very early big pipe. Which I like.

I repurposed an old IR emitter to start the heat pump remotely (home assistant), so now the studio is toasty warm when I get here....

HA had improved the interface for learning remotes a LOT, making is pretty trivial. 100% win.

This sounds a bit like Chernobyl, without the nuclear aspect. Obviously unknown if it’s 100% accurate but fascinating.

Had a bad cold from middle of last-last week (12 days ago)

Mostly gone. Mostly.

Resting HR is still +20-30bpm over normal. Which is weird.

(Unlikely COVID, based on the numerous tests I did.)

ok, so: on a mac.

I have (lets say) 5 mp3/aacs I want to merge together, possibly change the speed (eg 105 or 110%) for one, with pitch shift, possibly add a loop of the track + the last 33% of the track (eg 2 verse+chorus, and I want to repeat the last V+C again)

What do I use?
