Somehow I find myself self-hosting my own personal Fedi server - for those who care, it's a Pleroma rather than a Mastodon instance because it's lighter and cheaper to run. Also, this means I can call it M-m-m-my Pleroma, which should probably be illegal. It's been easier than I'd first thought, and so far, a lot of fun. Does that make me entootled? #fedi22

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

President Joe Biden’s Threads account @potus is federating on the Fediverse!

And I’m following him from atomicpoet.org!

Wow! This is as monumental as Barack Obama joining Twitter! A truly historic day for the !

@fediversenews

foxyloxy,

@atomicpoet @fediversenews you might know this Chris - does Pleroma have a problem with Threads federation? I cannot find or follow a single threads.net account from M-m-m-myPleroma personal instance

Since Mangane is unknown to most of you here’s an explainer.

There are three main microblogging flavours of the Fediverse:

  1. Mastodon, Glitch, Hometown, etc.
  2. Misskey, Firefish, Sharkey, etc.
  3. Pleroma, Akkoma, etc.

For atomicpoet.org. I used to use Pleroma but I’ve migrated to Akkoma. The Pleroma/Akkoma flavour is quite unique in that, not only is it perhaps the most resource efficient—it allows you to use different front-ends.

This is where Mangane becomes interesting because it is an incredibly user-friendly and attractive front-end developed by @clovis. And, in fact, I think it provides the most user-friendly and attractive UI/UX on the Fediverse.

Three servers that use Mangane are:

Why am I so enthusiastic about Mangane? Because not only is it good-looking and user-friendly, it provides excellent rendering for text-formatting. And its management of reposts (both regular and quoted) is spectacular.

Anyway, I’ve been testing Mangane for months. I’ve been using it on a live server for two weeks. I’m pleased with the results.

foxyloxy,

@atomicpoet @clovis @limepeep @fediversenews I'm using Mangane on my little personal Pleroma instance. As far as I know it's a fork of the Soapbox front end, and basically is very similar in many respects. I previously was using Soapbox FE with some misgivings due to its dubious pedigree. Very happy that Mangane is available 😍

Here's my prediction.

With ActivityPub, Mastodon will soon find a challenger that starts getting more attention.

Maybe is will be the *key apps. Maybe it will be Barcelona. Maybe it will be WordPress.

But when this starts happening, this will shake up the community-at-large -- and completely change the direction of the protocol.

@fediversenews

foxyloxy,

I want a fedi app optimised for long form and rich content blogposts that can be distributed via email newsletter and followed/commented via AP. I'm not sure anything like that quite exists yet....
