Jesus is their savior, Trump is their candidate. Ex-president's backers say he shares faith, values (apnews.com)

As Donald Trump increasingly infuses his campaign with Christian trappings while coasting to a third Republican presidential nomination, his support is as strong as ever among evangelicals and other conservative Christians....

Unfortunately, it’s well understood that political engagement especially when in a debate is an emotional undertaking.

Complicated further by the fact that we tend not to change our assumptions even when presented with data that proves otherwise.

We are a tribal species whose emotions are not geared towards understanding the far reaching and nuanced decisions we are faced with.

I would say arming Israel is now squarely on Congress.

In this case Joe Biden did not want to restart shipments but was forced by a Congressional resolution.

Here is a Reuters article covering the resolution, here is the house press release, here is the Congressional voting record.

He used his powers to bypass the Congressional approval process and then has since been against shipping weapons most likely because of the blowback.

While he could veto this resolution given the overwhelming support by Congress it would only cause a short term delay.

Congress at that level of approval has the right to override a presidential veto and given that it was done with the express purpose of spiting the president’s orders I don’t think it would do much good.

I will never understand why people are so keen on laying this entirely at the presidency.

Scary how right this seems with every passing day, I don’t like to be reductive but most people here can’t be reasoned with

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Because it’s an ultimately pointless gesture if you read both those articles.

Engage with politics at the Congressional and local level. The biggest reason Biden refuses to change his stance because Congress and a majority of his constituency still supports it.

So please continue to protest and engage your congressman and local officials. We can change this but we need action.

I think it’s important that you realize those payments are not just from the president’s cabinet but also Congress.

I take no issue with blaming Joe Biden but I do take issue with the fact we seem to place so little responsibility at the feet of our congressman.

Write your congressman if they are one of the members that forced the weapon shipments to restart.

The most recent weapon shipment is actually on Congress, Joe Biden didn’t want to send it and was forced by a congressional resolution led by Republicans because they know people won’t look into it and the president will take the fall out.

I left some resources to back up these claims in a previous comment .

franklin,

It’s alright, we’re all learning.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Incorrect, he was holding back shipments purposefully, this forces shipments to begin again and while he could veto it given the overwhelming support it would have bought a couple days at best and if you read both of those articles it’s very clear that that would have been the outcome.

Enough that reviews are no longer a useful metric

Connected cars’ illegal data collection and use now on FTC’s “radar” (arstechnica.com)

The Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Technology has issued a warning to automakers that sell connected cars. Companies that offer such products “do not have the free license to monetize people’s information beyond purposes needed to provide their requested product or service,” it wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. Just...

In the past I would have been dismissive however the FTC seems to have been very active with enforcing consumer protections as of late so I remain hopeful.

I’ve been enjoying these Skyr frozen yogurt pops that have only 90 calories and 7g of sugar but they’re still about a dollar each which I feel is a little expensive.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

You have mecurious now if I could do the same thing with my own skyr and xanthum gum… I might have to do some experimenting.

I don’t think they were trying to be judgmental just trying to clarify that asserting it from a place of hostility would be less effective.

This is a step in the right direction. Seems like great work.

Just not to vote evidently.

My apologies you’re right I extrapolated your intent when I shouldn’t have.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not sure what this is supposed to imply

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

That’s just incorrect and I point to 2016 as the perfect case study for how low voter turn out not motivating policy change.

I empathize that what is happening in Palestine is unforgivable however you’re cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If Trump acts as he promises to and accelerates climate change even further, there won’t be a hill left to die on.

I’m pretty sure everyone in my circles blamed the rampant obvious disinformation campaign that the public was ill educated to parse and see through.

He’s only terrible because he has to contend with a Congress that does not allow him to act which is why you need to appeal to Congress.

What you are choosing will kill everyone.
