Y'all ever realize that <insert culture here> month is just white people telling you that you have this specific month to talk about your culture and then they're going to pretend you don't exist for the rest of the year or is it just me? Like, I don't want your bread crumbs. I'm Latine the entire year not just one month for your convenience, you know? Y'all get all happy about tacos and burritos for one month and my Cuban ass is supposed to be happy and grateful? That's not even my culture! But white people just lump us all together because they only got one month to give us. Oh, and don't forget that no culture gets its own month because corporate sponsorships have to push multiple things at once. Heck, black history month is shared with Humpback Whale Awareness Month, just to give you an example.

@JoscelynTransient Yeah, I feel like I'm "okay" for a week or so at a time and then I just poof. Nothing seems to feel right and my brain goes into overdrive trying to figure out how to fix it again. It's kind of like being on a sinking ship with a pump, except your pump also has a leak, so you're constantly trying to patch it. Either way, the boat is going down, but you're just trying to keep it afloat as long as possible. It's in these moments that it really hits me how mentally ill I really am.

We think we have a racial and political divide. We do not. We have a broken mating system (marriage).

When men and women have adequate mating strategies, they put their focus on mating, and in so doing they become biologically satisfied. Or at least it keeps them busy.

But when mating strategies fail -- for a variety of social reasons, like now -- men become dangerous and women become batshit crazy and start defending DEI and open borders and anything else that increases the odds of women being around additional sperm.

What we think we see is Democrats versus Republicans. That's the downstream effect. But it's really a mating failure that turned Democrats into the woman party and Republicans into the man party.

Democrat men are pleasers, so they play along with the single women to increase their mating options. Republican women are inclined to back their protectors, which is also a good mating strategy.

Something I only realized last year: people under 25 don't listen to albums anymore, they listen to songs!

I had noticed artists would just put out singles more often than actual albums lately. And then I would suggest an artist to younger people I know and they would tell me the song was great, and that they listen to the artist all the time and they're one of their favorites. And I'd mention the next song on the album from the song I shared...and they would be surprised and tell me they never heard it? I'm like, do...do you not listen to albums anymore? And I've had more than one young person tell me they've never listened to a whole album but are going to give it a try now...

...I feel so, so, soooo old 😱👵🏼

@JoscelynTransient I noticed that started during the Napster days when people could easily just download popular song without the rest of the album. I've always found that to be... weird. If I can't listen to a band's whole discography then I don't feel like I can properly call myself a "fan."

You know, it's kinda funny to be an anarchist....and work as a manager. Even more interesting is that I'm reminded again how easy it is to not just be authoritarian in doing it too.

One of the ways I think I look at this differently than most folks is that my experience as a neurodivergent person makes it impossible to not notice that executive function - decision-making, prioritizing, budgeting resources, etc. - is a form of labor itself. So rather than see my role as telling people what to do, I collaborate with them to see what executive function labor I can do that eases their workload, while always leaving it open for them to ask me to do it differently or take that work back on if they need to.

Importantly though, when meaningful decision-making needs to happen, I collaborate with all stakeholders - staff, volunteers, people we're serving - to provide direction and consensus. Organizing this is labor too. This is what I treat as my job too.

@JoscelynTransient My experience with nonprofit boards so far equal a totalitarian head controlling the rest of the board and/or employees/volunteers through extortion and manipulation. The board usually consists of friends and family so as to never have anyone fight the head's control. If you complain then you are the problem and should "get with the program." They don't want volunteers because they are paying a single employee to run the office and the single employee needs to do an entire office's worth of work without assistance or "what are we paying them for?"

And this wasn't just a single place. This has been my experiences with multiple nonprofits.

@JoscelynTransient I think my frustration with these types of NGOs is that they pretend that they are different. They pretend that they're doing something good. But in reality, they just want to run like a corporate office but with the excuse of "we don't have a lot of money" so they can pay even less. At least, when you get a job in a regular field, you know what you're getting into. It's obviously going to be a trash job where they treat you like a cog in the machine. But the fake idealism that comes with nonprofits... Ugh, it makes me sick.

It's interesting because I was just reading a post where someone was saying that as an autistic ADHDer, they have to be told specifically that someone doesn't want to be friends with them or they'll just assume if you don't talk to them for months at a time that everything is still normal.

I definitely don't work that way. If you just up and stop talking to me then I will automatically assume that I did or said something to offend you. That you are absolutely done with me and we are no longer friends. So, just an fyi to those who actually want to be friends...
