I can't believe anyone that isn't a professional boxer would want to get into a ring with Mike Tyson.

Even at Tyson's age.

gizmomathboy,
@gizmomathboy@mastodon.xyz avatar

@grmpyprogrammer I was pondering that number

I'm not sure that living with millions and brain trauma would be worth it

grmpyprogrammer,

@gizmomathboy Any boxer has brain trauma so why not try to accumulate generational wealth?

If you say you'll resign on the spot if you have to read a perl program, really any program, that's a blocking

The 4 shots of espresso are hitting hard

Especially since it's been at last a year since I've had a large dusty Ivan

grmpyprogrammer,
@grmpyprogrammer@phpc.social avatar

@gizmomathboy what is a “dusty Ivan”?

gizmomathboy, to random
@gizmomathboy@mastodon.xyz avatar

what I hate about some distros...they take some core things out of a language and make it a separate package.

In this case it is the Perl module FindBin. It's core perl but for some reason it is not installed by default since it is a separate package....

I've had significantly worse starts to a day

gizmomathboy,
@gizmomathboy@mastodon.xyz avatar

And to name and shame this is Oracle Linux 9.

So presumably Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 is the actual culprit.

Also, perl docs are also a separate package. I can half see why you might but install them by default but it's one of Perl's super powers.

I know you might not want it on a host that just runs Perl programs, but what percentage is that? Is disk space really that tight?

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@gizmomathboy red hat has broken their core perl modules like this since forever, amazing they're still

This old body really isn't up to running cat6 around the attic

So the oldest has a wired connection now.

I had thought about running a line to our bedroom where the spouse had an office.

Reader, I was fuck all tired and noped the fuck out.

Instead I terminated the run, half assed getting the "network" area into about 50% less tire fire and then soaked in the tub

grmpyprogrammer,
@grmpyprogrammer@phpc.social avatar

@gizmomathboy Damn old-timer. I paid folks to run cat6 when we moved in here so I could have by Ubiquiti access points in seven spots (4 existed already)

I bet it's burning more carbon per minute than my 2018 Rav4 hybrid burns in an hour.

Especially idling in line waiting to pick up Rx

So, I watched an ESPN show that was basically dedicated to analyzing what the Dallas Cowboys should do after getting crushed by the Green Bay Packers

Some thoughts.

I haven't watched the NFL in at least 15, maybe 20 years. I still could form an opinion about this

On reflection I think it breaks down to labor versus management.

At the very least the coach has to go. Dallas did very well in the regular season and crumbles in the playoffs

gizmomathboy,
@gizmomathboy@mastodon.xyz avatar

The really hard part is that Dallas will probably have to pay lots of money to keep their roster of players and they might not think it's worth it

In total it is really just noise in the background.

IDGAF about this but it's still interesting to see how much sports commentary is just shouting

Also, I expected more ads for gambling than I saw

Also also I just might watch the eagles game tonight

Or read

Or something else

Dunno

grmpyprogrammer,
@grmpyprogrammer@phpc.social avatar

@gizmomathboy I have noticed since the start of the pandemic an increase in shrillness and desperation on ESPN coverage (both written and video) and Canadian hockey coverage (what little I see of that). You are right — it feels like experts shouting at each other and demanding you take a side.

And the neverending gambling ads. It’s a matter of time before one of the big 4 pro leagues in North America has a gambling scandal involving officials and/or team employees

JFC this can get in the bin.

I decided to do the travel into the frozen wastes today instead of tomorrow since the weather and roads looked good.

I made a stop along the way to pick up a necklace my spouse left at the hotel we stayed at last week.

Got it, got back in the car and then my phone decided to lock up. Like...black screen and I can't tell when it reboots and such.

So, I hope the weather keeps not sucking, i.e. no significant snow.

Fuckall cold is ok.

Namaste or some shit I guess.

Tomorrow is another day to keep that rock moving up the hill.

Making some caramelized onions

Going into a 400F oven for an hour. Well, longer than that but stage 1 is covered for at least an hour.

gizmomathboy,
@gizmomathboy@mastodon.xyz avatar

@enobacon I'm a bit dubious, especially for about 6 pounds of onions.

Possibly for a single onion

@gizmomathboy I can get a few done in the wok but yeah that would take a lot of stirring to get the water out.

An infrequent reminder to look at and clean your beverage making and drinking things

I suggest denture cleanser for the metal, ceramic, and glass bits that look stained

Acids for your heat up water stuff. Either distilled vinegar or citrus acid powder

A weak bleach solution for the plastic or silicone bits. Then a good rinse and soak in water

Soap and water and scrubbing go along ways too but I'm a lazy person and don't do that regularly enough. Even so, you will need to descale kettles
