Right now loving making games and other interactive fun things d(n_n)b. Diana and Italo created Glitchy Pixel, to see what happens \(^_^)/.

Diana is now at https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@Diana_P :D/

Also have a Co-host: https://cohost.org/glitchypixel

I'll probably lurk in mastodon but post in co-host, or vice-versa? Or maybe update he website someday. Yeah, I like having to go to more than one website.

Today is the official birthday of Lua. 💙🇧🇷

Our beloved language is now 30 years young!

What about you?...

Have you ever coded in Lua? 🙂

@pikuma owww I'm so sorry, but I just can't like Lua... I respect it's power and simplicity, but man. I just can't like the language T_T. I don't know how to like it, as much as I would want to...

I think that one of the fundamentals for programmers they keep forgetting is that is, in essence, about providing a service.

You are always making something for someone

And although programming for the sake of it can be fun and feel smart, it's not about that.

A programmer must strive to be an empathetic person! A person without empathy is not only a bad programmer, but a dangerous one that will do harm

As an example, just look at big tech and the damage they've done for not having empathy

Does anyone know about 2D libraries where the main focus is to blit/draw directly on the screen old school way? That is draw lines, polys and pixels on screen, and also draw sprites as textures with sub quads.
Usually with freeform game loop , and on any lang or binding.
The ones I have in mind are:

  • SDL
  • Pygame (based on SDL)
  • Allegro
  • Kha/Kinc
  • SFML
  • Raylib
  • Pixi.js
I'm sure there might be more besides these ones. Any info about it would be very welcome. I also accept "hacks".

@psychicparrot42 I'm probably one of those academic types. I think the term is first mentioned here https://lostgarden.home.blog/2012/04/30/loops-and-arcs/. I don't think it was originally intended to muddle things up.

I'm my practical projects, I have genuinely used from one to three of these ideas, never more than that. Books are too wordy.

First loops and arcs (for very specific things only). Second comes from the basic ideas of Raph Koster in his book, and last was very practical advice from a veteran in gamedev.

@psychicparrot42 having said that, I think most of what these people do is say "this is how my brain works" and I think that, while it can be useful for one nugget or two, no two projects are alike.

I like the Mike Tyson attributed quote "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". I think it's extremely valid for games, no amount of theory will prepare you to do the thing.

These books do have too much fluff. But maybe some things can stick to you if they resonate with you.

@seandick This looks so adorable. It reminds me a lot of Yoshi's flutter jump in Yoshi's Island.
