haakon,

Due to Apple’s policies, there are no good ones. The least bad one is called Onion Browser and is recommended by the Tor Project.

haakon,

First time I’ve heard of Ukraine using or even having thermobarics.

haakon,

I’m guessing the US arsenal of ATACMS missiles is rather limited and they have their own reasons for not making it smaller, which they can’t go into detail about. Frustrating, but understandable.

haakon,

It’s disturbing. I deliberately avoid any community hosted on his lemmy.ml instance (the ml stands for Marxist-Leninism). I could certainly not stomach the Ukraine community there.

haakon, (edited )

Do young Greeks align themselves with Russia on same-sex marriage too, or do they make an exception there?

haakon,

But it probably couldn’t have hosted lemmy.world. The answer depends on what the plans are for the instance, I suppose.

haakon,

new ideas like federation

That is cyclical too; federation is a very old idea. The most popular protocols on the internet used to be federated: IRC and NNTP (Usenet/newsgroups).

haakon,

All the youngsters think federation is a brand new and exciting innovation. Time is a circle.

SWIFT, the global bank network for coordinating international transactions and payments, explores blockchain interoperability to remove friction from tokenized asset settlement (www.swift.com)

This is news from earlier in June but was overshadowed by the SEC lawsuits that came out at the same time. SWIFT represents critical banking infrastructure and its openness to crypto assets signals a sea change in attitudes among banks. This article is still the lead story on their site, www.swift.com , which is also telling,...

haakon,

They’re just looking to “tokenize” their stuff, partly on a private blockchain like it’s 2017. They’re not going to do anything with bitcoin.

haakon,

There are admins and mods and rules on kbin/Lemmy too and in time they might frustrate you here like they did on Reddit. This is a honeymoon phase and everything is great, but things change as communities grow, always.

30 Jun: Genius. Ukrainians MAKE THE MOST FATAL TRAP | War in Ukraine Explained (youtu.be)

TL;DR: The video provides an update on the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, focusing on the battles in the Kherson region. Despite Russian attempts to gain control, Ukrainian forces have successfully maintained their positions and even expanded their control. The video highlights the strategic use of mines,...

haakon,

Any speculation on how there was a bunker there? Did they build it on arrival, or did it exist from before without the invader’s knowledge?

haakon,

Also on the same day that they block people from viewing tweets without logging in. No thanks.

haakon, (edited )

I may be out of the loop, but I’ve seen that kbin has an API. Is it not complete yet, or something?

Greetings! I’m continually surprised by what a large operation SDF is, for being so niche.

haakon,

How long can Russia keep losing over 900 people each day?

haakon,

I think it’s related to overloaded instances. I got up real early (CEST) when Americans are mostly asleep, and unsubscribed + resubscribed to the “pending” lemmy.world communities, and now I’m properly subscribed. This did not work during “prime time” yesterday.

haakon,

It’s equally illegal, at least in my country.

haakon,

They’re not moving to Lemmy, if that’s what you’re welcoming them to.

haakon,

All banks and bank-like institutions you might have access to will comply with the same anti money-laundering and know-your-customer regulations. It’s not really up to the individual bank to decide.

The “Swiss bank account” is largely a thing of the past, as they are forced into data-sharing agreements with the United States and possibly others. And even so, you need to be a Swiss national to qualify for a bank account there.

You can use cash as much as possible when it’s an option, of course. It’s less convenient, but privacy often is.
