If you “quickly checked out Threads” learn from the experience how important frictionless onboarding is (even if you hate Threads, you got to sign up for it and use and try it in seconds).
Signing up for Mastodon should be this easy (there has been a lot of progress lately!).
@gglockner My experience with the user base of Mastodon is opposite. They will try to help you as best as they can, and they want to make you feel welcome.
The signup process is horrible, and then you just stare into the void because it is not clear what you should to afterwards. Took me a while to realize that followers (and being followed) is pointless on Mastodon. Hashtags is all that matters. This will also perhaps dissuade new users who are used to the rush of getting followers and/or likes/boosts/retweets

The 2015 blackout saw a ton of alternatives suggested, and if you go back and look at them many have either not survived or never achieved...

I've seen many toots on Mastodon where people argue it is ethical to mirror Reddit now because so many people are destroying their content, and that will make searching for answers more difficult. Sure, I get their stance but at the same time I think is being a selfish scab.
The content that is now lost, will bounce back on some other plattform. Hopefully a better and more democratic plattform.

Men Danmark er et land med en langt større forkjærlighet for det autoritære enn Norge er. Og jeg tror denslags løsninger vil provosere nordmenn langt mer enn noen manglende håndtrykk
I fravær av et påbud, sitter vi igjen med en ren symbolhandling. Og slike er i praksis frivillige.

Kbin noob here - Is it the intended experience to take 2 clicks to open an image? (one to open the thread, then another to open the image)
