    File under electricity is eldritch magick:

    Fridge (a 12V thing, connected to our cottage solar system) causes strong disturbances in the FM radio when running. Radio receiver is 4 meters from fridge. Channel, antenna angle and exact position of radio reduces or increases disturbances. Also holding the antenna may decrease disturbances.

    HowEver, it seems that the disturbances went down when I adjusted the fridge so that it stands level. So… what?

    @karppinen @osma I have been battling with an old Procurve that has 24 MB of flash. Which would be OK, even with both primary and secondary images. But the poor developer has installed grub on the flash, and some tempfiles from Gnome. Tried to resolve this for weeks, didn't know paki-english this good before.

    Email SMTP TLS (STARTTLS) encryption is looking increasingly fragile. I'm seeing more sites where it just suddenly breaks (e.g. TLS Handshake error), and there's usually no practical way to debug it or reach associated employees in charge of those servers. Often the only workaround to get the emails delivered is to turn off encryption entirely for outbound email to those sites, which is clearly not an optimum solution.

    @lauren they haven't upgraded their stuff. They don't support TLSv1.2 or newer. Check with 'openssl s_client' and a flag for STARTLS or SMTP, can't remember have to check my bash_history. If You really want to talk to outdated servers You can edit openssl.cnf and add min tls version. If needed I can look it up for You, not at the terminal now.

    What is the least eco-horrific way to get from Helsinki to Stockholm? This is a question I've been studying for some time, getting ambiguous, conflicting answers. At the moment I am under the impression that this might be the order:

    1. Swim / sail
    2. Train via North
    3. Tie:
      train to Turku, ferry from there /
      propeller airplane from Helsinki
    4. Ferry from Helsinki
    5. Jet plane from Helsinki

    Do let me know if you have better, fact-checked information! Please!

    @jhilden @mkivinen one could perhaps divide the emissions by carried tonnage? A human is 0.1 tonnes. I am too a little confused by the calculations I've seen regarding emissions when using a ferry.

    @thor oh sailing yes. My dream is to sail the Norwegian coast up to Narvik or maybe Tromsø, leave the boat over winter and sail back the next year.

    I'm guessing you are talking about a different trip. I can walk from here. It's still smarter to help Ukraine with EVERYTHING NOW. If we don't, we have to send ourselves and our sons and daughters.
