There are measles and polio making a resurgence, tuberculosis cannot be far behind, never mind COVID, and this motherfucking white woman just left 1500 children unprotected from them.

And instead of jail, she gets to pay half her fine, and keep practicing?

Meanwhile, Black men, women, and children, are presumed guilty and jailed, if not murdered, for existing in their own country.

What in the actual motherfucking hell

One of the many things I love about this story is the whole "if it's not hard, it cannot be right" thing; just how Puritans decried bodily comforts and --heresy!--heresy time. Humans will human.

(in other words: you didn't "set aside the interrogation of the genre", you looked at it from a different angle, IMO)

I read and reviewed Alyxandra Harvey's The Husband Heist, third in her Dainty Devils series; not as enjoyable at the second entry, by far.

Mar 17: Have you taken high school or college courses in Creative Writing? Were the classes useful?

I tried my university Creative Writing class, offered by a prof who'd had a book picked up from Random House, I believe. He read my sample stuff—queer and spec-fic, to be clear—and wrote "Trite" and "Common" and didn't accept me into the class. Was soul-crushing. Didn't write for ages.

Anyway, he still has that one book. My sixth small-but-trad-pub novel releases next month.

It was a rough night here at casa aztec, but Nightmare is feeling much improved right now (although she absolutely hates the cone, and who could blame her?)

TFW you have two cats: one eats anything and everything, the other turns her nose up at 99% of food--and it's the second you need to give medication to, "with food".

@romancelandia You can tell your non-demonstrative cat loves you when she suffers you stuffing little pills in her mouth and forcing her to swallow; when she lets you put food in her mouth, and ditto; when she lets you dribble water in her mouth, and same--especially because she has not let you give her any painkiller (which comes in liquid form).

Nightmare is a tough little bird.

@romancelandia For those keeping track at home, Nightmare has gained .8 pound from her emergency vet weigh-in of 6 pounds 3 ounces; for such a small cat, this is major.

Her spine and hip bones are no longer protruding, her coat is shiny, she's been more vocal and demanding (of cuddles and outright holding) than ever.

I'm so happy.

Icing the incision to help with swelling:

Lovely friends and readers, especially those of you who offered to help with vet bills for Nightmare: can we help someone else? She's got two cats at the vet, one of them for over a week now, and the bills are racing up like crazy.

Do yourselves a good turn and make sure to follow Author Beware by @victoriastrauss

The most recent post is about #CityOwlPress, but there's wisdom that applies to all small presses:
"there is a kind of alchemical process where long-standing strains and stresses within a publisher...abruptly reach critical mass and boil to the surface in the form of a rush of complaints."

I just came across this TikTok " for their for dinner" remark", and I love how clear the goal and mechanism to achieve it are: if enough people do this one fairly little thing for a full quarter, the powerful will notice, and can be forced to change their behavior.

That's how boycotts work, after all.
