hsl,

We’ve had plenty of variations on this topic recently. Removing per rule #4.

To all the people who've given those few downvotes everywhere (no shame), what's the deal?

So many posts and comments end up with just a few downvotes, compared at least to the number of upvotes. The only time downvotes get relatively large is when there’s a contentious issue or outright bad behaviour. Otherwise, there’s very often just a few downvotes....

hsl,

Removing as it’s not an open question and because we have lots of discussions around downvoting.

hsl,

I think my bag is pretty conventional. I do keep my earplugs in there so I always know where they are.

hsl,

Loved this series growing up - definitely formative and probably part of my gateway into fantasy. On this vein, I can also recommend the Song of the Lioness by Tamara Pierce.

I haven’t read the new book that you’ve mentioned but will check it out!

hsl,

I read the ebook because I wanted to know what happened. It was great and now I’m seriously considering reading it again when the audio book comes out because they did such a good job.

hsl, (edited )

I’ve just finished cleaning up my Calibre library and switched to the Story Graph - I really like the filters for figuring out what to read next.

Currently reading The Lefthanded Booksellers of London by Garth Nix. I’ve been trying to avoid YA content but picked this up as a palette refresh. So far, I’m enjoying the world-building and the snappy dialogue.

I just blew through the Gild series by Raven Kennedy - it was a random Story Graph recommendation but apparently it’s huge on Booktok. I generally enjoyed it, particularly the world-building and character development. The fourth book dragged as there’s a lot of set up for the final book (to be published) in the series.

And of course, Dungeon Crawler Carl, book 6! It’s getting very complex but the core elements that drew me to it are still there. How in the world is this going to end?

hsl,

The third book puts such a beautiful cherry atop the whole series

Phew! I just have the third book left but I’m both looking forward to and dreading it.

Yeti here, too - must be at least three years now. The base has a few dents but otherwise going strong.

hsl,

Late 30s, learned to drive in NL and now live in SE. Initially learned about transmissions by running around on four wheelers. I drive a manual car every day. There’s a lot of fun and connection to driving manual, though I see the ease and efficiency of the automatic transmission as well as the general trend.

Interesting topic but missing a clear, open question for discussion. Removing per rule #1.

How do you handle being upset about something online?

like either a dumbass posting stupid shit, unfair bans, idiotic arguments, etc etc. i feel so incredibly stupid letting it affect me at all, but then also there’s real feelings mixed in there because it’s a real argument i give a shit about to some degree. so it’s this odd double crossing where i know it’s stupid but i...

hsl,

Walk away and take a breath.

Also, will this really matter to me:

  • Tomorrow?
  • In a week?
  • In a month?
  • In a year?

That helps to put challenging situations into perspective.

hsl,

Fountain pens - I started with a 30 euro Parker but it seems like just one is never enough.

Is there anything good in Hexbear?

The few conversations I’ve had there have been unproductive and inflammatory. While even in other instances when I’ve said something someone disagreed with they would at least support their statement. Also no one would tell me why the “Confused Unga Bunga” meme is racist but they keep accusing me of it. I’m all for...

hsl,

The question itself is inflammatory but there has generally been a good discussion. Locking instead of removing.

hsl,

That looks like the error that shows up when the community hasn’t synced with the instance yet, usually when you’re the first to subscribe to it. My guess is that the removed post wasn’t synced to your instance before it was removed, so your instance doesn’t have a local copy to show you. You could probably get around this by navigating directly to this community and then checking the home instance’s mod log.

Here’s a direct link to test it out: lemmy.ml/modlog/8

Note: I’m guessing as I don’t have access to server logs to confirm.
