Also two more Igalia's talks at this Thursday:

@lauromoura discusses why we need browser automation for testing on certain types of embedded devices and WebDriver's main features and limitations in the talk "Automated Testing for Web-based Systems on Embedded Devices" at 9:55 AM (PDT): https://sched.co/1aeSx

@mariospr tells us how WPE can be used to adapt to the different challenges that embedded devices pose to develop end-user applications in the talk "Building End-user Applications on Embedded Devices with WPE" at 3:15 PM (PDT): https://sched.co/1aNTr

igalia,
@igalia@floss.social avatar

Our resident Q&A and testing expert @lauromoura has explained what's coming on the WebDriver front. The new BiDi (Bi-Directional) specification from the @w3c will enable new ways of test automation for modern web applications with plenty of client-side computation and async behavior.

Same person, still in front of the speaker stand, addressing an audience, seen more from the front. Behind him, towards the right aide, there is a projection screen, and the current slide reads โ€œAutomated testing of Embedded Web Applicationsโ€.

For our last talk
@mariospr gave a higher level introduction to @WPEWebKit, which complemented neatly the more technically oriented talks. Great to see many people attended despite being one of the last presentations of the conference ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Picture of the same person, taken from farther away. He's talking to the audience explaining the needed components for a WPE powered embedded device.

Adrian Pรฉrez (@aperezdc) shares best-practices and bring-up tips to build and get WPE WebKit working on your custom embedded device in the talk "Embedding WPE WebKit - from Bring-up to Maintenance" at 11:00 AM (PDT): https://sched.co/1aBFQ

Changwoo Min (@multics69) explains today how the scheduler impacts your gameplay on Linux and shares our progress for reducing the stuttering problems in Linux gaming with the talk "Optimizing Scheduler for Linux Gaming"at 2:55 PM (PDT): https://sched.co/1aBOT

igalia,

Meet our team! It will be a pleasure to chat about @servo, @WPEWebKit, graphics drivers, Linux kernel and open source development. You can find us at booth E28 or at our talks during and .

igalia,

Today, @aperezdc covered a lot of ground on his talk about how to integrate @WPEWebKit in an embedded device. Plenty of tips about choosing suitable hardware, how to make the web engine interact with native code, and how to keep it up to date. He made a compelling point about the commitment of the team behind WPE to keep API/ABI backwards compatible, enabling projects which need long-term support to get security fixes.

A white bearded male wearing a blue cap and a black T-shirt, in front of a speaker stand. The speaker stand has an EOSS poster, and a laptop with assorted stickers on its lid. In the background there is a projection screen showing a presentation slide, which reads โ€œShould I ship updates? YES.โ€

@igalia@floss.social avatar

This one was about ! Our colleague
@multics69 has been on a quest to remove stuttering from games, by going all the way down to the kernel process scheduler. He's been working on a new gaming-oriented scheduler that has potential to also improve other kinds of interactive workloads. And it's implemented in ๐Ÿคฏ

Same person during the talk, a convoluted graph in the slide shows dependencies among scheduling tasks and how they interact waking up each other.

Today Rakhi Sharma (@atbrakhi) shares our experience on the Servo project with the talk "A Year of Servo Reboot: Where Are We Now?" at 2:15 PM (PDT): https://ossna2024.sched.com/event/1aBNF/a-year-of-servo-reboot-where-are-we-now-rakhi-sharma-igalia

Alejandro Piรฑeiro speaks at about "Raspberry Pi 5: Challenges and Solutions in Bringing up an OpenGL/Vulkan Driver for a New GPU" at 3:25 PM (PDT): https://eoss24.sched.com/event/1aBEx/raspberry-pi-5-challenges-and-solutions-in-bringing-up-an-openglvulkan-driver-for-a-new-gpu-alejandro-pineiro-iglesias-igalia

igalia,
@igalia@floss.social avatar

The Servo talk by @atbrakhi was great to get a good idea how things have been moving in @servo during the last year and a half. There were interesting questions about embedding the web engine and how Igalia came to end up in all the main web browser engines.

Same speaker, seen two thirds from the front, the speaker stand has an โ€œOpen Source Summit / LinuxConโ€ poster. The slide on the projection screen is titled โ€œServo in 2023โ€ and lists some of the initiaves and improvements done around Servo in that year.

igalia,
@igalia@floss.social avatar

Alejandro Piรฑeiro gave a nice run down in his talk about how @igalia brought driver support into Mesa for the GPU in the Raspberry Pi 5: starting from the days where the hardware didn't yet exist, using a simulator, to how racks of devices have been set up to run continuous integration.

Same person, picture taken from beneath the speaker stand. His right arm is pointing sideways in a pose which transmits the idea of explaining something with an example.
