Looks like you were only a couple of minutes late, somebody posted this 2min before you did

Ah I think 0.18 changes how the server talks to clients like your app or the website, and the app you're using didn't keep backwards compatibility with the previous version which is what Beehaw is still on. 0.18 landed, uh, was it yesterday or the day before that or something like that, so it'll just take them a few days

Be gay, do federation.

Also crime 🏳️‍🌈

But yeah, makes this particular enby happy that the Fediverse isn't as bigoted as the big platforms

No, they have to play the one made by a company known for its toxic work culture.

Not that that isn't like 80% of the industry, though…

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

It's understandable that that's a sensitive issue for you, but the advice honestly is pretty accurate

it remains unclear whether Denmark’s centrist government — with its overall, hard-line stance against immigration — will extend these temporary protections for Ukrainians.

a) Their government isn't "centrist." It's right wing pretending to be centrist, because right-wingers always pretend they represent the majority

b) they won't.

I mean, the build quality isn't a problem for terrestrial use where your life doesn't depend on it. A 1% failure rate (I don't know what it actually is, just pulling a number out of my ass) is not bad in those cases, but I'd be a bit nervous about it in a sub.

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

Oh I get it, I'm not saying they're unreliable for normal gaming use (something like a 1% failure rate would be great for consumer stuff), but that I wouldn't want to bet my life on one.

Solar and wind can't replace nuclear energy. You can't get 24/7 output from renewable sources, and you can't store extra energy when you produce it (and you can't just beam energy thousands of kilometers when there's overproduction somewhere but underproduction somewhere else), so you need a source with a stable output alongside sources that sometimes don't produce anything.

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

Huh, interesting, I was under the impression that losses at distances like that would make it impractical

interolivary,

Far as I know current battery technology just isn't up to it because it relies on rare earth materials that are extracted with processes that are absolutely terrible for the environment and are, well, rare.

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

Salt batteries?! Huh, that's neat, I learnded a thing today thanks to you.

Dug up some info on them. Apparently their problem is that they don't have high discharge or charge currents and they need some energy to keep their temperature, but in cases where those are OK they definitely seem promising.

How many other Russians have a devoted private army to do their bidding? Are there any others?

Several, in fact. This article has the count at 37. Gazprom (yes the energy company) has one, shit, even Shoigu has his own PMC called Patriot.

I didn't see it as her being angry at the ones 40 years ago, but the ones who continued the hype even though it was obvious string theory wasn't falsifiable

I've got an account on kbin too, just out of curiosity. Mastodon posts (what's the Mastodon equivalent of a tweet?) end up over on microblogging, but people on Mastodon can see "regular" posts too so people from Mastodon are often in the comments.

No idea how these comments show up on Mastodon, I don't use it. "Microblogging" just isn't my thing

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah, I just don't see that happening. The whole "western" world is taking hard turn to the right, and that's not going to get better any time soon.

interolivary,
@interolivary@beehaw.org avatar

Sure it is; an investigation doesn't really mean anything to them, they can just go on as they have before. Not sure if there'll be any legal repercussions?

Usually nitrogen and not helium, cheaper

Forgot about the NSA leaks already? They don't ask for the data.

I guess being a boring Dem wouldn't be as lucrative?
