@javi@goblin.band

Hi! I'm @_jv_ and https://tumblr.com/jv, but this is my little instance where I'm doing a bit of an experiment to merge both. Basically, I'm trying to build a tumblr-like platform that runs on the fediverse. I called it Goblin, and you can find the source code here:
https://github.com/johnHackworth/goblin

Soft. dev by trade, I used to build things for places like Tumblr and WordPress.com before their fall, now I work for a company I won't mention here after learning from my previous mistakes.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

For sure Israel is not a rogue state, for sure:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/28/israeli-spy-chief-icc-prosecutor-war-crimes-inquiry

【Revealed: Israeli spy chief ‘threatened’ ICC prosecutor over war crimes inquiry】

Some excerpts from the link:

"The former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation"

"Cohen’s personal involvement in the operation against the ICC took place when he was the director of the Mossad. His activities were authorised at a high level and justified on the basis the court posed a threat of prosecutions against military personnel, according to a senior Israeli official."

"Another Israeli source briefed on the operation against Bensouda said the Mossad’s objective was to compromise the prosecutor or enlist her as someone who would cooperate with Israel’s demands."

"According to accounts shared with ICC officials, he is alleged to have told her: “You should help us and let us take care of you. You don’t want to be getting into things that could compromise your security or that of your family.”

"The Mossad also took a keen interest in Bensouda’s family members and obtained transcripts of secret recordings of her husband, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the situation. Israeli officials then attempted to use the material to discredit the prosecutor."

Sanctions. Now.

Also, the Israeli foreign affairs minister replying to the spanish recognizion of palestine with a clearly ai-generated image (of some people celebrating a ... nuclear strike? with some... shoggoths in the background?) feels very zeitgeist

In another episode of "I can't believe we are in the good side of history for once", our (spanish) government not only FINALLY has officialy recognize the state of palestine, but also have asked for a return to the pre-1967 frontier lines in Palestine, clearing that Spain won't recognize any frontier limit that's not agreed by the states involved.

That would mean:

Israel should end the West Bank occupation.

The israeli settlements in there should be under palestinian administration

West Jerusalem should be under palestinian rule.

(not specifially mentioned, but implied) The Golan Heights should be returned to Syria

(not specifically mentioned, but implied) The south of Lebanon should be returned to... well, Lebanon.

If we (plus ireland) could bring the rest of the EU to support this plan, it would be huge (probably can't, but babysteps).

The Germany behavior about everything Palestine-related is so clearly post-traumatic that it would be hilarious if it didn't mean they are supporting another genocide.

If an entire country could go to therapy, Germany would be in serious need to start ASAP

Manor Lords is outstanding. It gets close to the Utopic ideal of "what if dwarf fortress actually had a UI".

I just wish developer Greg added mod support, so someone could mod in a villager becoming a werewolf.

I mean, I'm just read this on an internet screencap and I'm horrified he snapped poor Tim the pencil. What a monster.

I think we should be grateful to Google for creating their AI search thing to fill the ecological niche left empty by the death of Yahoo Answers

This is specially horrible, because William Morris wrote A LOT against the industrialization of the domestic arts, and about how things like industrial printing alienated not only the workers from their work but also people from their homes and environment. He blamed the industrial revolution for making humans less creative and making us forgot important skills, and you could call him the great great grandfather of the "do it yourself" movement.

And now they are selling AI-generated prints with his name on them.

Aren't we sure google AI isn't really giving us access to the internet of a slightly different, cooler, timeline?

I'm losing my shit about the Windows AI spyware feature storing it's data in windows registry and dumping all the text that goes in you screen into a sql-lite database.

At first I thought it was a joke, holy fuck.

Actually, if we go back 10 or 15 years, to when Google search was really really great, I'm willing to bet that the "feeling lucky" button back then had a higher ratio of accurate responses than any of the modern chatbots.

You probably have seen already all the caps about google AI recommending to put a bit of glue in your pizza sauce. You may have seen also how someone digged up that it comes from a reddit shitpost from ten years ago.

This case illustrate perfectly something I've been saying for a while: chatbots are basically a cosmetic upgrade over the good old "I'm feeling lucky" Google button.

Or more exactly: a new version of the button that needs 600 million $ in Nvidia gear every month and wastes half a liter of water every time you click it

Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. We are FINALLY recognizing Palestine as an independent state. Norway and Ireland too. Fuck. Yeah.

What's more insane about the new windows built-in spyware (apart from the very basic fact that... Well, they have actually done it) is that... They are selling it as an AI feature?¿

As they have explained it, what it basically does is to store a screencap every few seconds in a folder that tents makes 10% of your disk where the fuck does ai is used there? What's next? Ai-powered mouse pointers?

We (spain) has called our embassador in argentina for consultations after Milei's barrage of insults againt the goverment from his keynote in the fascist-fest this last weekend.

Everything in politics is very stupid lately.

So, openAi used Scarlet Johansson's voice even after she declined their request to do so. You know, Scarlett Johansson, the massively popular film star who once sued Disney.

But hey I'm sure they are going to remove our Tumblr posts from their training corpus once we request it, even if automattic sold them without any legal bound to do so. I'm sure they will.

Ok, now the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, clearly accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity, I hope that means it's time for the UK, US, Germany, etc to finally drop the support for the gazan genocide. I'm probably too naive, though.

javi,

as of today, from 56 requests of a warrant, only two of them has been initially denied by the ICC pre-trial chamber. And both of them were accepted after appealing. So there's zero cases where prosecutor has request a warrant and it hasn't been issued.

Oh my god, I have wanted tumblr to add this filter to the notifications tab FOR YEARS. I mean the "only from people you follow" in the top right. I don't know how I didn't think about adding it to goblin since the very beginning, but it's done now, yay!
