these days Google Scholar usually knows about my publications having been made publicly available before I do, and so I just update the list of publications on my web page based on it.

I think back in the day, I would post papers on my web page because it would take too long for them to appear on the official sites, and they'd be paywalled and hard to access there.

today, i got an email from Apple, telling me that a subscription I had purchased that I no longer want was going to automatically renew, with a clear link to cancel. STRANGELY, subscriptions purchased outside of Apple never let me know this or make it easy to cancel.

@andresmh this is the great HCI problem -- if you could get something for 2% cheaper, but it had all these dark patterns like making it super hard to cancel, those costs are in the future sometime and hard to really reason about, so most people would choose to save 2% now?

We are doing LLM-generated NCAA Men's basketball tournament brackets again!

Last year I pitted Bing (GPT-4 with search) against ChatGPT (recap: https://sigmoid.social/@Riedl/110143664412473513)

This year I a made brackets using Copilot (nee Bing), Gemini (nee Bard), and ChatGPT3.5. I didn't get my ChatGPT bracket in before the NCAA bracket challenge deadline because I had to jailbreak ChatGPT to get any predictions, so that one is on paper.

Gemini bracket has Purdue winning
ChatGPT bracket has UNC winning.
