imposter syndrome, but instead the feeling that I'm always meant to be doing something else -- so never quite give 100% focus on one thing because of feeling like I should be focusing on something else instead -- and wow it is exhausting to type that out as I'm nervous as I should be doing something else besides typing right now

Trying to get my head around the GenAI APIs popping up all over lately. What's a good use-case for wrapping calls to ChatGPT in your own application?

For instance, the Spring AI's for calling various LLMs. Seems like you could make cool party tricks of creating poems, maybe creating content for your marketing, maybe images based off your data... But is any of it useful?

Tech Blogs are journalism in the purest sense of filling-a-gap in the lack of a larger journalistic presence in the deeply technical space, and I think that's a big reason why we're nostalgic for their return to the forefront

Quarterly rant about npm (and yarn) — the default for npm i really should have been npm ci behavior of not updating the lock file. Plus don’t update package.json by hand unless you’re feeling extremely YOLO!

From afar — Apple Vision Pro seems more like Newton than it does iPhone. A step towards something evolutionary but not the revolutionary thing itself

Really wish ChatGPT could share source links. I mean the answer it gave to "why are mainframe validations called edits" sounds plausible -- but really no idea if it is hallucinating or if it based it on a valid source link. I was using it because Google results weren't helpful but ChatGPT is also only mildly helpful without citing a source

I asked ChatGPT to share its sources for the answer. ChatGPT responded that it can't share sources.

Some last call musings on NA brews for Dry January. So surprised at the tons of options out there! Really hop’d up about it. But it’s late, so here you go before I tap out for the night. (Faux) Cheers! Let’s see how fedi clients like this link with a 🍻 emoji in it https://sheetsj.com/blog/dry-january-beers-%F0%9F%8D%BB/

NE Legislature getting sneaky (not surprised). I read through this bill and all it does is redefine the meaning of "manufacturer". Definitely not clear why it exists or where it came from and Tesla apparently wasn't aware until late yesterday before it gets presented in committee today https://engage.tesla.com/articles/1339-share-opposition-lb-891-today

🗓️ Now that webmentions are working, I needed scheduled deploys to pull in all those sweet build-time likes. A few clicks on Cloudflare Pages and it now redeploys daily - though it took a Deploy Webhook, a Worker with some minimal JS code, and a Cron Trigger (plus testing) -- so here's a blog https://sheetsj.com/blog/cloudflare-pages-cron-deploys/

Quick change to redirect the old blogger rss location to the new 11ty feed.xml. Was really easy using Cloudflare Pages _redirects:
/feeds/posts/default /feed.xml 301
Can't imagine anyone was actually following the old blog but now it'll magically be resurrected for that one person that forgot about it from years ago

Published my App Defaults to follow the lead of @robb and others - https://sheetsj.com/blog/app-defaults/

Extended the list with a few of my own at the end. The most notable being Reelgood the 📺 Tracker I started using last year and is indispensable!

Is there a name for the idea that:

  • a professional generalist (AKA me) is really good at storing pieces of info in the brain in a way that it is easy to know how to look it up, but hard to recall exact details
  • great at solving problems across disciplines via creative solutions
  • quickly retrieves the data stored across the vast internet
  • And yet, really bad at remembering exact answers in direct interview conversations

Random beautiful fall afternoon thought: Omaha hype is high lately - tech scene - city growth - airport expansion - streetcar line going in - metro at 1.1 mill and growing --- going to be a handful of remote-work centers in this next century --- so don't sleep on Omaha!
