thought I'd inspect why an API keeps failing when loading my AT&T bill online, and now I wonder if their unstable site is just a long ruse - well played AT&T

  • tailwind isn't my thing, but it's fine, no problem if you like it.
  • single-spa is kinda tricky, but has some nice benefits.
  • just PLEASE don't use both tailwind and single-spa at the same time! Thanks! all sorts of weirdness with compilers tree-shaking out styles that it thinks are unused but are actually used by a different micro-frontend

Migrated https://sheetsj.com over to @eleventy and a new template today -- after nearly 20 years (2004-05-12) on Blogger!

Still some rough edges, odd html/css in markdown here and there, not quite finished design, but I'm loving iteration 0 so far 🚀🎉

Migrating from Firefox -> Safari on my Mac for a new daily driver. So far so smooth with the import making it easier than I had expected so far....

Gameday parking - can park at downtown Lincoln meter all day for $15 on the app. Or the expired meter citation is only $10. Why wouldn't you just take the citation and pay later? 🤔 Feels wrong but at same time aren't they basically incentivizing us to get a ticket instead?

Started reading a 1986 book Secrets of Consulting by Jerry Weinberg, and the intro lists him as Lincoln, NE my hometown. And now I'm down a rabbit hole of learning about him and how often our paths might have crossed. Wow what a small world! And kinda sad I somehow never knew of his legacy until now https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Weinberg https://twitter.com/JerryWeinberg

Shared a bookmarklet with the dev team to workaround an intermittent QA environment thing, and was pleasantly surprised that some team members hadn't seen a bookmarklet before, so here's a primer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet they're wonderful little browser hacks!

Took a journey to find a free static hosting solution that includes some simple server-side analytics stats. Used github pages for years (no stats), but finally looking to replace the client-side JS analytics piece...

Was surprised to find that the simplest (and maybe only?) solution was through Cloudflare(!) using Pages (https://pages.cloudflare.com/) with DNS (https://developers.cloudflare.com/analytics/account-and-zone-analytics/zone-analytics/#free-plan)

Happily moved https://gaspumpr.com/ over without much trouble at all this morning!

Made a quick write-up to share a commandline way to setup Java to call APIs that use self-signed certs -- plus it doesn't require clicking around in cert downloads from a browser! Optimize your onboarding steps https://www.devobsessed.com/post/commandline-java-truststore-cert-setup

Too often, the amount of bugs caused by code seems to be proportional to the cleverness-level of said code

After a few months on my first Tailwind project I can say it has lived up to my expectations: nice framework for those without prior CSS experience, or for JS or backend devs, but not my thing. I can live with it but I’d rather not if given the choice. Maybe cause I’ve been pro CSS since the beginning, I don’t know. Just seems to not click with the vibe of what CSS really stands for

Unit test cases in frontend JS are sooooooo valuable for actual units, and higher level integration unit tests of multiple components interacting using msw to mock the network are 💯 the best!

Working on fixing a super side case bug in some very complicated frontend logic and these react-testing-library tests are saving us soooooo much time!

I haven't quite wrapped my head around how best to use it yet, but Split Screen in MS Edge is kinda cool! Using Edge on a client Windows laptop for the latest gig, and I've never seen this trick in other browsers before... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/features/split-screen?form=MT00D8

JS is great until you need to parse in a date in "MM/DD/YYYY" format and output it to "YYYY/MM/DD" format, and you just want to ignore timezones.... ugh i hate timezones....

BA: why's this call slow after we "modernized" the API?
Dev: Using React functional components to call a GraphQL layer to call the REST layer that synchronously sends MQ messages that hits a Mainframe process to query a Mainframe flatfile isn't exactly "modernized"

i'm just the consultant/contractor, so i don't really care... but threatening your dev employees that if they don't deliver quicker that they'll have to start commuting to working in the office with mandatory overtime -- probably isn't going to get the reaction that you are thinking it will get
