Just found out there's a documentary about the rise & fall of HQ Trivia (gift link):
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/20/movies/glitch-the-rise-fall-of-hq-trivia-review.html?unlocked_article_code=1.PU0.H2y0.9Gss9fMRVR-h&smid=url-share

It looks like it use to be in HBO Max, but isn't there anymore

jenni,

@zacitus I can't seem to find it streaming anywhere now :(

jenni,

Oh interesting, it's saved on the Internet Archive's TV Archive since it played live on CNN. It's in 1 minute clips here: https://archive.org/details/CNNW_20230306_020000_Glitch_The_Rise__Fall_of_HQ_Trivia/start/60/end/120

And you can borrow it from them for 30 days:

jenni,

Also a podcast about the subject by Alyssa Bereznak https://www.theringer.com/boom-bust-podcast

(Thanks @nileane !)

I wish I had a expert to ask questions my kid asks me, cause I don't know how to answer this.

If you had a box that was unbreakable and it's being filled with water (on the inside) infinitely. What would happen?

My guess would be some kind of black hole situation.

jenni,

@isaiah I found this awesome YouTube channel awhile back. They post lots of black hole stuff

jenni,

@isaiah haha same I have to just Google "in a nutshell" to find them 😂

@heyheymomo add more time between each frame, and the frame rate might be messing you up too.

If you like it as a MOV, you can use Gifski to play with frame rate and size

I’m looking for a good specialty decaf coffee. I know it’s hard to find good decaf and it will never really be as good as regular, but I get the urge for a hot drink and to practice latte art at about 10:00pm far too frequently, but I don’t want to destroy my body by having every more caffeine than I already consume so late in the day. Anyone have any good recommendations? I ordered some from a local roaster I’m excited to try but I also like to try lots of different coffees.

    jenni,

@micah I get a subscription from this company. They curate coffee from small companies all over and everything I get is delicious. They have a decaf selection that is probably close to what you're looking for

    https://www.drinktrade.com/collections/decaf-collection

And if you do want to order, I have a $20 referral credit so you basically get a free bag of coffee

Does anyone else sneeze while eating dark chocolate?

It’s something that started happening to me about 10-15 years ago (or maybe I just didn’t eat it before then) But it’s really messing up my ability to enjoy the Samoas Girl Scout cookies.

    😱
“As the air in the passenger cabin rushed out, the Oregon woman turned and saw her son’s seat twisting backward toward the hole, his seat headrest ripped off and sucked into the void, her son’s arms jerked upward.”

“He and his seat were pulled back and towards the exterior of the plane in the direction of the hole,” she said. “I reached over and grabbed his body and pulled him towards me over the armrest.”

Does anyone else live under the threat of constant booby traps?

    jenni, to Figma

TIL that scroll position/state management has changed in #Figma prototypes. I wondered why the screen wasn’t staying where I scrolled when I didn't have "Reset scroll position" checked.

Now, screens that have a similar name + / will keep the same scroll position.

    Example:
"Home/Default” and Home/Expanded” will share scroll position.

    “Default” and “Expanded" will not.

    jenni,

@danilo I was a bit scared to do the switch at first. I felt really overwhelmed. As I started learning it, I started to love it more. I had to go back to Sketch for a few files and I really prefer Figma now.

Some of the small details like naming artboards, changing colors, are easier.

The prototyping alone has become super powerful, but since you’re a dev, you could probably just build it faster 😅

I don’t mind talking about this more with you, I’ve sort of become a Figma fangirl😜

    jenni, (edited )

@danilo as far as muscle memory, it’s pretty similar. There’s a few quirks you have to get use to. One big one for me was to remember to hold command when resizing the artboard, otherwise it stretches things really weird because of auto layout.

    wrksart, to design

I'm a big fan of Figma's Dev Mode, which has managed to wipe out all the hand-off solutions from the recent past. Remember Zeplin, anyone?

Just got a sad email that Figma is shifting Dev Mode exclusively to their paid plan. It's a subtle move but quite significant. Our side projects and NGO work intensively used the view-only Figma Dev Mode.

Moving developers to a paid plan is going to hurt. Are we looking at a Zeplin Revival?

    jenni,

@wrksart for what it’s worth, the view only mode where you see the measurements/colors/exports are still going to be free. It’s the extras that will be under a fee.

I’m reading The Phantom Tollbooth out loud to my kid. It’s so delightful, I’ve never read it before!

When we’re done we’re going to watch the movie, which is illustrated in that amazing vintage late 60’s/70’s style.

Edit: And directed by Chuck Jones!

@krishnadraws I suggest following @miggi 's tutorials and look out for his online workshops. https://www.youtube.com/@miggi-from-figgi Also check out Figma for Education: https://www.figma.com/education/
