Calling all #VisionPro nerds:

Is there a non-Safari browser that anyone can recommend?

I have to access Confluence and JIRA. Confluence tables are basically un-editable in Safari on visionOS for some reason. Arrow keys don't work, and the cells are too small to reliably use look-and-pinch.

Ok, someone smarter than me please weigh in-

I have an OLED TV hooked to a 4K AppleTV over HDMI. The CEC control works flawlessly. I also have a Sonos soundbar hooked to the TV over Optical.

Somehow the AppleTV remote knows to control volume over IR to the soundbar.

How does this work? Is there an optical “handshake” like HDMI? Is that how the AppleTV figures out there’s an optical soundbar on the TV? Or is it just assuming because it found the Sonos on the WiFi?

Working on my #VisionPro today as a "monitor" for my work laptop for the first time in a while to see if it will work on an upcoming trip. Thoughts:

• why doesn't the sound mirror to the VP speakers? It's not even an AirPlay target, it should be.
• Occlusion should always show my keyboard, even when fully immersed.
• Working in an environment is kinda nice.
• Universal Clipboard is great to move data between native VP apps and Mac apps.
• Universal Control rocks.
• VP needs ⌘-Tab

Searching for Google IO 2024 on YouTube puts the official keynote below a news carousel and #6 in the results, at least with my algorithm.

I hope this isn’t the future of Google Search. I’ve watched several videos about Google leading up to I/O, so YouTube should know what I want to see - and it ain’t “news about Google protesters” from a local NBC station 7 hours away.

The fact that so many creative and artistic people are taking it as a literal destruction of physical tools makes me doubt how creative and artistic those people actually are. My guess is it’s mostly CGI, right?

Meanwhile, they did a WHOLE SEGMENT on replacing live musicians with A.I. in Logic Pro and nobody bats an eye.

Priorities, people.

About two weeks into using Arc as my main work browser.

Pros:

• lack of window chrome/clutter
• bookmarks-as-tabs is great
• sidebar > toppy tabs
• ⌘-L

Things I’m Still Grokking/Cons:

• separate windows aren’t really separate windows
• just figured out double-clicking a tab/bookmark reloads the ORIGINAL url, even if I’ve navigated away.
• Lots of hidden interaction.
• Extensions are hidden under a menu

I generally use 2 web browsers. Chrome for work, and Safari for personal. I like keeping bookmarks/history/passwords/etc separate.

I’m going to switch to @arcinternet for the month of May for work stuff. Importing everything from Chrome was a breeze, and all the Chrome extensions I need work in Arc.

I will not switch my personal stuff from Safari, though. The iCloud-synced tabs, history, tab groups, Reading List, etc. are all part of my daily use, and can’t be replicated yet.

I really like my #VisionPro and still use it all the time, but I think Apple missed the boat a bit. The Meta Raybans are a more practical face computer.

If Apple had created sunglasses that had a decent camera, Apple Music/Podcasts, and Siri built in for $300, it probably would have been a massive success.

I don’t know what happened yesterday with AppleID security, but things went sideways fast. I had to reset my AppleID password (which I should have done years ago - hadn’t changed since 2008 🙃).

One thing I appreciate but don't understand is the "enter your passcode from another device" security confirmation. I get that this is a great two-factor way to prove you at least know a lot about the account, but how does it work?

How does Apple know what my VisionPro passcode is from my Mac? Anyone?

Trump never thinks anything through, does he? If all presidents have immunity for everything forever, that includes Biden.

If presidential total immunity is a thing, what’s to stop Biden from defenestrating a few SCOTUS justices in order to rebalance the court? Ordering hit jobs on Fox News execs? Telling DHS that the Secret Service protection is revoked for criminal indictees?

The possibilities are endless.

I’ve been time-boxing for a couple weeks now (I used to time-block from tasks, now I time-box for outcomes).

It’s taken a little tweaking, but it’s really helped me get focused. The key for me is building in Flex Time for when things go off-plan or letting my mind wander on YouTube or social media, and building in specific times of the day to deal with Slack/Telegram/Email.

What if, and hear me out, Apple lets someone else run the App Store?

Current leadership will lose as much money to fines and lawsuits as they’ll make by having such restrictive (and unevenly enforced) rules.

Apple has made their money on App Store stuff. It’s time to open things up.

• app marketplaces everywhere
• allow third party in-app purchase providers (make deals w/Stripe, etc)
• cut commission to 10% across the board

These 3 things would reduce revenue, but would do so much good.
