qobi,

@jon When in Cottbus have a quick look at the construction site for the new ice maintenance factory: https://www.db-neues-werk-cottbus.com/ There is even an info center with fance multimedia. :) https://www.db-neues-werk-cottbus.com/infozentrum.html

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@qobi Will try, but as I live in Berlin quick trips to Cottbus on the are not hard, so one summer Saturday I will make a proper trip!

Bit of public pressure… and Deutschlandticket will now work in some IC trains in Niedersachsen https://www.mw.niedersachsen.de/startseite/aktuelles/presseinformationen/mit-dem-d-ticket-im-ic-nach-norddeich-niedersachsen-bremen-und-deutsche-bahn-einigen-sich-221829.html

I’m taking one of these on next week

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@qobi @der_mit_ph Aber dann nur in Niedersachsen und nicht in Brandenburg?

der_mit_ph,
@der_mit_ph@toot.berlin avatar

So if the AfD did what they say they did, 17 AfD members of the Abgeordnetenhaus backed Wegener

CDU has 52

So that makes 69

Wegener got 86 votes, 3 Abstensions... so did 14 of the 34 SPD members vote against him?

14 SPD
22 Linke
34 Grüne
against Wegener?

oneiros,
@oneiros@ruhr.social avatar

@jon Well, he got only 71 in the first run...

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@oneiros True. It's possible a handful of CDU members also didn't back him. His position is at best fragile.

jon, to random
@jon@gruene.social avatar

3 round of voting in the Abegordnetenhaus

FOR Wegener 86
AGAINST 70
Abstains 3

Wegener is in

But presumably only with some AfD support?

DiegoBeghin,

@jon So what happens when this government doesn't have a majority to pass some of their bills? Or is that an unlikely outcome?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@DiegoBeghin we might get to that. But Wegener will be conscious to not push the SPD too far.

jon, to random
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Wegener nervously eating M&Ms here, and there will now be a 30 min pause and not yet a 3rd round of voting to see if Berlin will get him as CDU mayor...

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@deadliftbear Wegener is not the one in danger. The SPD and Giffey are the ones with the problems...

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@deadliftbear Oh and now RBB speculating the AfD might now secure Wegener his majority! This is such a damned mess. And it all starts with Giffey.

OK, so postcards are BACK for 2023!

Only this time it won't be Transport Commissioner Adina Valean receiving a postcard each day, but instead different people my followers suggest

So who should get the postcards? Submit your ideas here! https://crossborderrail.trainsforeurope.eu/about/postcards/

And as last year, the second postcard each day will go to one of the people who funded my project - do tell me if you'd like one!

salocin,
@salocin@norden.social avatar

@jon Volker Wissing and Christian Lindner

Schadenfreude

Sorry, Berlin SPD, bit it's hard to resist

jon, to random
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Really?

Improved cross border services to Germany from France will now only happen in mid 2026 although the trains will be delivered next year?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@PGLux What’s happening to the ex-Bourgogne Corail control cars?

PGLux,

@jon

They will pass to Grand Est.

AuRA also wants those from PACA.

Berlin’s dumped vehicles

This is right outside the Subway at the Stadler bike store in Friedrichshain. No plates. Clearly not moved in months, maybe years. And there it sits, rotting. Parked on 5 sq m of public ground for free

oook,
@oook@im-in.space avatar

@jon Tires are still inflated so it indicates it might not be so old.

Is someone living inside is the question. It may ntot have registered plate because owner couldn't afford to keep paying for insurance and move it to a better place.

irgendwienet,
@irgendwienet@chaos.social avatar

@jon @kkarhan at Simon-Dach-Str they introduced no parking on one morning per week for cleaning the street. And they towed for that. That helped a lot

Before I focus completely on railways for 2 weeks ( 2-15 May), I have one lecture about EU communication to give - to politics masters students at the University of Maastricht

Given what Musk has done to Twitter, but also seeing what this has taught us about social media and digital infrastructure, it's going to be an interesting discussion with the students I think!

My slides:

steely_glint,
@steely_glint@chaos.social avatar

@jon you might want to mention matrix and wire as alternative (more ‘European’) messengers - admittedly with tiny reach in comparison to the rest.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@steely_glint those aren’t complete lists. Only examples.

Surgery time

My old iPhone 6s is getting a new battery so as I can use it as a GPS device on my bike handlebars during

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@jens Basically I reckon a iPhone 6s in a Quadlock case with poncho is still the best cheap handlebar mounted GPS device going 🙂

jens,
@jens@toots.nu avatar

@jon

Sure, iOS15 will be usable for a few more years. At least 3. So getting 10+ years use out of a device is pretty sweet.

There are faster ways than SÜWEX RE1 from Koblenz to Mannheim, even with the Deutschlandticket! 😜

Alex Hof-München is really a super one though - I can highly recommend it. Sure, it's slow, but it's a nice route and often a decent train

Source: https://cdn.statcdn.com/Infographic/images/normal/27551.jpeg

simfen,

@jon Thx Jon, good to know!

Lenny_du_Nord,

@jon also they have missed the mon-fri 17:08 SÜWEX from Frankfurt to Mannheim.
(Although I did recommend that one in my Spiegel 9ET Interview because it takes you through all the beautiful river valleys while the sun sets)

It's a bit like this Lille plan that pays car drivers to not drive into the city

Hell, you're giving people money to stop people doing what they should not be doing anyway...

MAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT BETTER AND CHEAPER FOR ALL

https://www.themayor.eu/en/a/view/lille-pays-drivers-to-do-anything-but-drive-their-cars-11720

jon, to random
@jon@gruene.social avatar

😡🤦‍♂️🤯

And now Wissing is suggesting people who buy new cars should receive a Deutschlandticket public transport ticket for free

I have NEVER owned a car. My contribution to air pollution, congestion etc. is confined to the handful of days a year I rent a car

Any chance that those of us that have made the ethical choice all along might be rewarded for it instead?

https://www.welt.de/newsticker/dpa_nt/infoline_nt/wirtschaft_nt/article244994720/Wissing-Autohersteller-koennten-Kunden-D-Tickets-spendieren.html

irgendwienet,
@irgendwienet@chaos.social avatar

@jon and that’s the problem as seen by wissing. With not owning a car you do not contribute to the economy. Who cares about the environment ? You do not deserve a free ticket.

So I have finally sorted out everything for Saturday 13 May during

I'm meeting a transport expert at the DB Museum in Nürnberg, and then meeting activists in Bamberg - if you are based in or near either city you'd be most welcome to come along!
