To celebrate one year surviving open heart surgery, I bought a pack of 10 gummies. Was told they were 5mg each and to start by taking one.

Took 1, felt nothing, waited 30 minutes, took 2 more. Felt nothing. Took 3 more, felt nothing, waited an hour, took the last 4.

Still felt nothing. By then it was bed time so I just went to sleep. Nothing, nada. At all.

I found out later that this is a thing…

I don’t think it’s “Americans”, it’s a brainwashed subset of Republicans who have been systematically fed an alternate reality for 30 years all the way back to “Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster!” (investigated by none other than Brett “I like beer, OK?” Kavanaugh) and “Janet Reno is really Chelsea Clinton’s father!”

It’s smaller than you think… keep in mind, the Republican party has been distilling down to a pure crazy base for years now…

So remember, when you see polls like “70% of registered Republicans think… x”, that’s what’s left after 20 years of rational conservatives leaving the party.

This isn’t the party of George Will or William F. Buckly, Jr. The academic conservatives are long gone now.

When I was a kid, the governor of Oregon was a guy named Tom McCall who famously said:

“We want you to visit our State of Excitement often. Come again and again. But for heaven’s sake, don’t move here to live. Or if you do have to move in to live, don’t tell any of your neighbors where you are going.”

Years ago I was gifted a biography of him called “Fire at Eden’s Gate: The Tom McCall Story” and introduced another quote of his that I try to take to heart every day.

“Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky, they are people who say ‘This is my community and it’s my responsibility to make it better.’”

FAFSA does more than that, it feeds your financials to the schools you apply to through it.

This is presented as “convenience”, you submit your info once and apply to a bunch of schools.
