kent_eh,

Prime day is a pretty big scam all on its own.

kent_eh,

Because BoC’s mandate is to limit inflation

And further to that, they have very few tools at their disposal - interest rates being the main (and most effective) one.

kent_eh,

Now?

Looking at the US from an international perspective, the democrats have been rather conservative for a very long time.

kent_eh,

However, since most retail hardware is built to target Windows compatibility, it could mean fewer options for hardware that will be easy to install Linux (or any other OS) on.

In fact, I would count on Microsift making their hardware spec intentionally be difficult to load anything “unapproved” on.

kent_eh,

In Winnipeg some of the glass collected by the blue box program ends up getting crushed into sand that is used for road building and maintenance at the landfill.

Which servers the second “R” (re-use), and also reduces the need to quarry and transport fresh material for that roadbuilding.

Sure, it’s not being remanufactured into new glass products, but it is still better than what used to happen.

kent_eh,

It still is socially unacceptable in actual society.

The problem is they’ve found a micro-community who also embraces similar (and often worse) anti-social ideas and behaviors, and has convinced these losers that their dumb ideas are reasonable.

kent_eh,

What, exactly, do you think Biden could have personally one to prevent the Supreme Court from doing what they were stacked by Trump to specifically do?

The president can’t overrule the Supreme Court. He can’t appoint any new judges until there is a vacancy.

And the economic crisis isn’t a uniquely American problem. It’s also impacting Europe, Canada, and most other western nations. What can the president of the US do to directly and quickly “fix” something of that scale? Something that had been several decades in the making?

kent_eh,

there’s a tricky balance of moderating intolerance and welcoming open conversations

Where does not tolerating religiously motivated hatred and intolerance fit into that framework?

kent_eh,

Too bad the article didn’t actually define what “BDS” is, nor even expand the acronym…

kent_eh,

I used to think the more apparent and devastating outcomes of climate change were bound to hit long after I passed away, but now I’m not so sure.

Too many people thinking like that is exactly why we are where we are today. And why it will continue to get worse.

Those of us who actually care about the world our children and grandchildren will have to live in have been trying to get some large scale action for decades, and we’re tired of beating our heads against a brick wall.

kent_eh,

“Remains”, or “is growing” because of the hostile and authoritarian actions of the Chinese government?

‘A dangerous step backwards’: outrage at supreme court’s LGBTQ+ rights ruling (www.theguardian.com)

Civil rights groups and Democrats reacted angrily to the US supreme court decision in favor of the Colorado web designer Lorie Smith, who argued she had a first amendment right to refuse to provide services for same-sex marriages. Critics of the court’s decision say it ushers in a new era of prejudice in America....

kent_eh,

My wife still has a purchase she made from Sue’s shop.

Which reminds me, I should buy some batteries on my way home from work…

kent_eh,

North Dakota is strong Trump/MAGA territory.

Oregon Finally Legalizes Pumping Your Own Gas After 72 Years (www.thedrive.com)

Oregon’s Senate has repealed a 72-year prohibition against self-service gas, with new legislation requiring gas stations to staff half the available pumps, while allowing the rest to be self-service. The bill, responding to industry staffing shortages, also prohibits charging more for full-service than self-service, likely...

kent_eh,

So… are we celebrating a bunch of people losing their jobs?

Here's why people are being so mean about the Titan going down - CBC (www.cbc.ca)

I have to say I’m not sure what they were hoping for, the discourse hasn’t felt overly mean by internet standards, but maybe that’s just my bubble. I’m sorry they died, but now that we know all the details it’s a bit like the guy that decided to hike up a lava field last year....

kent_eh, (edited )

I dunno. The US has always been big on their hero worship, and they also have a long tradition of celebrating the people who claim to have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps

kent_eh,

Pretty much everything from my bank to youtube.

kent_eh,

You might.

I’ll keep booting into Linux, and I would recommend anyone that Microsoft pisses off to try the same.

kent_eh,

Woman. Of color. Democrat.

That’s a large part of why no republican (or conservative) is going to give her any respect.

kent_eh,

Invites (at least on the trackers I’m on) are seldom available, and are generally only available to long term members with very high ratios who generally have the most vested interest in keeping the tracker free of narcs.

kent_eh,

I wonder what they mean about including “other types of wheels”

I’ve seen some rollerbladers doing some pretty wild tricks.

kent_eh,

It fragmented pretty early on

During the lifetimes of the people who originally wrote the John and Paul gospels.

kent_eh,

Bad for the economy, but great for politicians who “love the poorly educated”.
