kent_eh,

I can almost guarantee you that very few (if any) service industry jobs are paying $34.95 per hour.

And if they are, those aren’t anywhere near full time hours.

‘We will fight with our fingernails’ says Netanyahu after US threat to curb arms (www.theguardian.com)

Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Israel will stand alone and “fight with our fingernails” in defiance of US threats to further restrict arms deliveries if Israeli forces proceeded with an offensive on the southern Gazan city of Rafah....

kent_eh,

Thats something that a lot of people seem to forget. This fight has been going on in one form or another since the creation of the modern state of Israel. And there is an almost unlimited amount of blood on the hands of both the Israelis and Palestinians. (As well as the colonial countries who set up the borders in the first place)

kent_eh,

It sure would be nice if we lived in a country where policing was actually a civil service and not a damn street gang.

The cases you hear in the media are the ones that provoke outrage.

On a day to day basis the police have hundreds of interactions with the public that aren’t remarkable or noteworthy.

kent_eh,

Unable or unwilling?

kent_eh,

They had intense disagreements about how to build the country, and no single design or designer had enough influence to get exactly what he wanted.

The difference is they were willing to give-and-take to eventually come to a mutually tolerable compromise solution.

Contrast that with today’s “if you are from the other party, I will thwart you even if it is a good idea”

kent_eh,

Oh goodie, you did the bare minimum and voted.

Have you involved yourself in actually improving the process?

kent_eh,

As a citizen of our w of those “more Northern countries”, that is one of the things that concerns me.

kent_eh,

The good things about his campaign promises is you know it’ll never happen if he gets elected.

Except you don’t really know what he will actually do. Some of it will be even more crazy than this idea.

kent_eh,

This.

There is a difference in how Canada Post treats “unaddressed admail” and addressed mail (even if it is an advertisement).

kent_eh,

Want to go farther? Fine! DC fast charging is, in fact, fast

Sure, but those need to exist at the appropriate locations, and be maintained in working order - neither of which is the current reality in a lot of places.

Add to that the lack of availability of affordable EVs and you are going to have the slow adoption we currently see.

.

I was planning to get an EV of some sort the last time my vehicle needed to be replaced, but there were none available at the time that fit my budget and my needs.

I still intend to have one relatively soon, but the practical realities are still an impediment.

Transgender activists flood Utah tip line with hoax reports to block bathroom law enforcement (apnews.com)

Transgender activists have flooded a Utah tip line created to alert state officials to possible violations of a new bathroom law with thousands of hoax reports in an effort to shield trans residents and their allies from any legitimate complaints that could lead to an investigation....

kent_eh,

Not only “trans activists”.

It’s also just average people who are frustrated with the stupidity of these kinds of discriminatory laws.

kent_eh,

It has already started.

kent_eh,

What’s your point?

Just because someone else is being bad doesn’t obligate us to do nothing about our own contribution to the problem.

.

Pull your weight and set a good example for others.

kent_eh,

but complicated since most jails don’t have remotely the capacity or security of a real prison and you’ve still got to figure out how to work his Secret Service detail into the picture. And also the protests from his cult if/when that happens.

Which are all things the judge acknowledged in his statement ashen he handed down the most recent contempt ruling.

Like it or not, there’s a lot more considerations to this than simply “lock him up”.

Just how far is Pierre Poilievre willing to take the notwithstanding clause? (www.cbc.ca)

In January, the Federal Court found that the Trudeau government’s use of the Emergencies Act to respond to the protests of the self-styled freedom convoy in 2022 was not properly justified — a decision the federal government is now appealing....

kent_eh,

I was really hoping the next election would feature a normal Tory leader

Given the state of conservatism globally, I don’t think you will get your wish for quite some time.

kent_eh,

one that he has already prepared his goon squad to riot over

That concern for the safety of the officials who would have to enforce an incarceration order is one of the things the judge specifically referenced in his statement.

kent_eh,

giving Netanyahu the 26 Billion in bombs

An American tradition of blindly supporting Israel since 1947

kent_eh,

Also, there will probably be a response in the industry,

I dunno. There have been tool rental places with pro level tools for a very long time, and the tool manufacturers don’t seem to have reacted to stop it.

kent_eh,

Privatize the profits, socialize the losses.

After a few centuries of doing that, how about we try the opposite for a while?

kent_eh,

I’ve actually heard it’s incredibly difficult to retrofit office space into condos/apartments.

It is. Difficult, time consuming and expensive.

But even with that, I’ve seen a couple happen that seem to have been sucessful.

It took them almost 3 years between commercial tenants leaving and residential tenants moving in, but it from what I can tell, it appears to have been sucessful.

kent_eh,

The 2 projects I witnessed had to re-do the plumbing, electrical, elevators, fire detection/sprinklers, HVAC, and exterior glass, in addition to gutting every interior wall and doing a full asbestos removal.

It was a lot of work, over several years, but they now have full residential occupancy, so it seems to have worked out.

As China and Iran hunt for dissidents in the US, the FBI is racing to counter the threat (apnews.com)

After a student leader of the historic Tiananmen Square protests entered a 2022 congressional race in New York, a Chinese intelligence operative wasted little time enlisting a private investigator to hunt for any mistresses or tax problems that could upend the candidate’s bid, prosecutors say....

kent_eh,

India had a Sikh activist killed in Canada a year or so ago. And Modi predictably freaked out when publicly called out on it.

Arrests were recently made in that case.

kent_eh,

That’s a large part of it.

I think China is also studying the western response to Russia as they think about their own future activities in Taiwan

kent_eh,

What do I think?

It’s fiction.

Don’t read too much into it.
