Trying to spread awareness again for Tilemap Town, my visual #furry MU* and hangout: https://novasquirrel.com/town/

It's open source and has a documented protocol, and is designed around the idea of collaboratively designing 2D maps with other players. You can use custom graphics for map tiles, and custom player graphics (if you can make a 32x32 doodle of a character, you can play as them!)

I've been working on it since 2017 so the software has had a lot of time to mature, but I've had a hard time helping it find its audience. If anyone knows how to reach people interested in lighthearted SFW furry #roleplay I'd really like to know. I'm also hoping to specifically establish fantasy themes if possible!

you know, you never really know how good you have it in contemporary programming languages until you have to slog through things in a dialect of basic for some reason (mostly screwing around on https://telehack.com)

feeling like a genius for getting anything done, but also i'm already at the point of wanting to make a build system for a better language to compile to this

working a techie day job sure makes me feel like a witch sometimes with just how many jazzy tricks i know with the tools i use, and there's endlessly many more to learn...

and yet, it's all not really necessary to get a functional result, and folks get by without knowing much of it

it is great for getting stuff done effectively though, if i use some restraint with it

it's a trip booting up an old phone that i thought had become inoperable years ago, and seeing the notifications and other state that was there

doesn't feel like it's very often that these bits of the past ever get preserved in some form. i have a habit of, intentionally or not, deleting or otherwise losing these things...

on one hand, old cringe is avoided. on the other hand, a lot of other things are avoided, some of which i might have wanted
