It's interesting to think about game console companies having enough weight to affect what features chips have, though it makes sense since they'd be really big customers

I'd like to get to a spot where I can talk about game dev, old consoles/computers, the shows I'm watching, the games I'm playing, the projects I'm working on, and the places I'm going, and be able to talk about that with people.

I want to talk to people about Cyberchase and Neopets and Splatoon and the SNES and magical girl media and the stories I want to write.

But I feel like I have the "wrong" interests?

I do genuinely feel like there's some strong similarities between Hacker and Robotnik that go far enough that I don't think it's a coincidence, and that was a big reason I was interested in watching Cyberchase to begin with (before I realized I just enjoyed the show). But it's also fun to reach for all the minor stuff I can grab that doesn't actually matter and pretend it's additional evidence.

it's funny to look at those "good2grow" juice bottles with the plastic character tops, and among all the Peppa Pig and My Little Pony and Paw Patrol there's Shadow the Hedgehog

Went and did another try at a little ice cream area next to my Second Life house. I don't think I was really feeling the balcony thing, but having a more natural looking platform looks fine! And I like the tent more than the weird glass thing I was using before. It'd be nice to try and make a custom texture for it though!

The Tilemap Town protocol document is so long and full of stuff at this point that it might be a little intimidating? I put some notes in there highlighting what the most important parts are, to guide people toward being able to make a minimal implementation, though maybe it'd be nice to have a separate guide.

Of course that'll only really matter if someone actually wants to implement it.

Doing small talk about work is weird, since there's significantly less randomness on a day-to-day basis than there must be in other kinds of jobs the way other people talk about them. I go into work knowing I'm just going to continue to chip away at tasks I've taken on and attend meetings here and there, so I have no idea what a good or bad day of work looks like. I guess when I have way too many meetings I'd call that bad, but otherwise...

I like when electronic music sounds like hardware that's being strained, even though that's not really how audio hardware works (that I know of). The soundtrack for Edge of Disgrace sounds like that in some parts, getting really warbly, and it feels especially fitting for a demoscene thing.

The local zoo is only about 2 miles from my house, and I have a membership, so now I just need to get really good at zooming out there and back and then I can go look at red pandas any time I want

It definitely takes me a bit to get there currently, but I think if I learned the route it wouldn't be too bad

Turns out the full version of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX for PS1 is every bit as awkward and unintentionally funny as the demo in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, except I have more levels to be awkward in.

There's severe problems with things appearing in front of things they shouldn't, like my character appearing in front of a bench here and looking like I'm just a little baby man. Also when I grind on things the bike very rarely actually looks like it's making contact with what I'm grinding on.

I gave Tilemap Town a simple tile animation feature, where the tileset PNG can have a horizontal strip of animation frames and the game plays through them at a constant (but selected per-tile) rate. You can do forwards, backwards, and ping-pong animation, and it works in combination with autotiling.

I also in the same update made it so that you can control what animation you see (entities, tiles, both, or neither), and made it so that the options you pick actually save properly now.

The Cyberchase episode that was on today not only involved a robot bird working for Hacker named Scratch (which is funny given all the parallels you can draw between Hacker and Robotnik as portrayed in "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog") but also Hacker turning himself into a balloon (looking very P-Balloon shaped) and seeming to be really into it.

I've gotta try and remember that when I'm worried about whether or not my characters have enough development, I did go through a bunch of them and make all their personalities a lot more strongly defined, so the answer is probably a "yes"

Maybe I should think about getting an actual proper NAS because mine (using a Pi 4 and Samba) is slow enough that it has to stop and load in the middle of streaming over an MP3 file

Of course there's probably multiple fixable reasons that could be the case, that I could probably do something about

Maybe I should get some actual rain boots or something if I'm going to continue going out on walks whether or not it's raining on a particular day. Though I can probably avoid that by just making sure I don't step in puddles and don't use a mini umbrella.

I doodled a simple symbol for Clover so that when I eventually get her drawn as a Care Bear or whatever I can have something ready to go. I tried a few designs but ultimately decided simple was best.

There's some symbolism I can read into here, where the clover directly represents her and she's got a ring of magic almost like a protective bubble, alluding to the the magic that entered her life and whisked her away to a better situation.

I'm playing with updating my old NES Dr.Mario clone after finally getting to play it with someone else showed that there's a lot of stuff that really needed fixed, or that could be better.

It felt cool to get to play a Dr.Mario that was fast though.

And now Squirrel Domino has 8 backgrounds you can pick from and suddenly the game feels way more polished. I also made the backgrounds display during multiplayer battles too.

There's been a bunch of other updates and tweaks and I think I'm generally feeling pretty good about the game now:
