I am going to migrate from my self-hosted single-user Mastodon instance to mastodon.social. (@kkoyung) (1/4)

Been fighting with the compose (see: set up) situation for weeks now. The reliability of the container configuration just isn't there. Thankfully there's an extensive pull request on the official Codeberg that is just wrapping up work that should make this install a LOT more robust. Hello, next expansion into the Fediverse (and THANK YOU @kkoyung for your work)! If anyone knows their shit, review their code! https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/pulls/143

kkoyung,

It's my honor to contribute to Fediverse.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

kkoyung,

You are doing a great job. It is really hard to keep an instance up with so many new users coming from the unexpected fast growing .

/kbin update - upvotes, boosts, languages...

Hi everyone, You may have noticed a small change on the website. From now on, upvotes work just like on Lemmy - they are equivalent to Mastodon's "favourite." You can boost a post using the button that replaced "favourite." Another change is that you can now rate and boost your own posts. Boosting has a one-time effect - it...

kkoyung,

@ernest Great work!

I haven't take a deeper look to the code. I just read the current version of instance creation instruction, Dockerfile, and docker-compose.yml. There are somethings I don't understand, which you might find useful in improving docker related stuff. (1/2)

kkoyung,

@ernest

  1. In the Dockerfile, the kbin-core repository has already been copied to the image. Why we need to mount the repository as volume again with ./:/srv/app in docker-compose.yml? Is it because the front end javascript is built outside the image? (and why those yarn command are not automated in Dockerfile?)

  2. The docker-compose.yml has caddy as reserve proxy. Will it be safe if I directly turn it off, and use my own nginx reserve proxy with my own certificate? (2/2)

To avoid a door-to-door salesperson, you pretend you’re not home. But imagine you could convince them your house doesn’t even exist?

You can do that with your by choosing “Reject” under “Disabled alias/Blocked contact” in your account settings. (1/2)

kkoyung,

@simplelogin @CedC @protonmail Look forward to phone masking. It will be a great feature.
