CentOS Stream will now be the sole repository for public RHEL-related source code releases.

Sounds like SRPMs (or some equivalent) for updated packages are only available to subscribers from now on; and SRPM for the packages that build a RHEL release are only to be found in the history.

Do I read this right or am I misinterpreting something?

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/furthering-evolution-centos-stream

knurd42,

@zhenech

yeah, but you could build SRPM from there IIRC, that why I wrote "(or some equivalent)".

knurd42,

@zhenech

because a package build in CentOS Stream (to say later become part of RHEL 9.3) might be somewhat different from an package that is pushed in parallel to 9.2 as update, as the former might depend on other stuff already in Steam (and thus queued for RHEL 9.3).

For most people that won't be much of a difference I guess, but for cloners it might complicate things.

But let's stop, maybe my assumption my initial toot is simply wrong.

and get ready to regularly build and ship (aka ) packages: support for building them was merged to kernel-ark, which among others is the base for Fedora's kernel packages.

https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/2403

https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/commit/263cc874a205ff99a65fc5611f2c9b058c139adf

The RT logic is currently disabled and will remain so until the remainder of the PREEMPT_RT patches are merged upstream.

knurd42,

Yes, that means that I'll ship kernel-rt packages in my vanilla repositories for once everything lands upstream.

TIL: is releasing new minor releases in parallel these days (e.g. 8.8 and 9.2, 8.9 and 9.3, …).

Learned it here:

This article shows how to use [#systemd #cryptenroll together with] either a #TPM2 chip or a #FIDO #U2F security key as an alternative factor to the passphrase when unlocking your [#Linux] #LUKS partitions.

BTW — on Apple TV+ is worth watching, IMHO.

knurd42,

@jwildeboer

Started reading the books recently when I heard about the series. Really enjoy them.

Was taken back and forth if I wanted to watch the series later. Guess due to your toot I'll give it a try.

Thx!

[EDIT 202305311350 UTC: you can likely ignore this, the updated mesa-freeworld package is now in updates proper; and the new mesa package soon, too]

Hey

(1) 38 users

that use

(2) any mesa*freeworld pkg from

and

(3) have updates-testing enabled.

Video apps might crash for you due to a major.minor version mismatch; if you want to fix it, grab the updated package from here:

https://koji.rpmfusion.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=25790

Hopefully it soon will make it to the rpmfusion repos.

knurd42,

@jvnknvlgl

Just slightly edited that toot, yes, mesa-va-drivers-freeworld will be affected as well.

all mesa packages from fedora and rpmfusion have to be the same major.minor version, which sadly a bit tricky to realized with rpm/dnf and different repos.

    But over the last few years, Ed Sheeran has been highlighting the ways in which […] modern copyright is stifling rather than incentivizing music creation — directly in contrast to what we’re told it’s supposed to be doing.```

    Instinctively grabbed this medal a moment ago while debating internally "are these interaction with fellow humans worth it, or do I simply want to walk away from this Open Source project[1]"?

    Thanks again for handing it to me, @spot, it kinda helped to calm me!
