🇬🇧 I think I will manage to finish #reading the #Silo trilogy over the long May weekend! I had a slight break after the first two parts, but today I grabbed my #ebook reader and started the third part 😉 📖
I like the comedic tone they have used. It’s a nice counterpoint to the violent post apocalyptic world.
The vaults must have been an influence on the silos in Hugh Howey’s Wool books. Not saying he copied Fallout as the Wool stories are totally different. Except for a few aspects of the silos, which I won’t put here as it’d be a huge spoiler for anyone watching Silo adaptation on AppleTV+.
How do you break down clique's that form in the office?
Example, developers are already an insular group. When they start making decisions internally that are going to affect the whole company without asking, I get worried.
The company cannot be small silo'd groups of people.
@jepyang it... gets... so... much... BETTER. you don't think it can possibly get better AND THEN IT DOES.
These books sold me on Hugh Howey. My OCD gets mainlined with good authors and he's no exception, I've read nearly everything he's written. And keep finding more and I know I have to catch up now, too.
These books aren't known to me as Silo, I think of them as Wool, Wool II (Shift), and Wool III (Dust). :) So when I see #silo I have to translate that to #wool
Immediately after I finished this trilogy I devoured the Sand series, plus fanfic. Then I chomped through all his space stuff, which is some of his BEST stuff. Not Wool-level mindblowing (imho), but still ... his universe building is like watercolor paints. Half Way Home is spectacular.
And guess what? There's another show. Beacon 23, that's the same author. I don't know if it's as good, but I wanna see it. The books are also fantastic.
I got a "refrigerator question" after #Silo TV series (You enjou a film but later get a "wait-what?" moment) It makes no sense for absolute tyranny to exist in a community of less than 10k people, struggling to survive in a hole. Why lie to people for hundreds of years yet the truth increases chances or survival?
Is tyranny just an overused trope in dystopias for story conflict, or is this how the system makes us tolerate the bad governments of today?
@montag : it's pretty gripping, although not high brow television. It has a conspiracy vibe to it, and the first season asks more questions than it answers, but it's got some thrilling moments too ! If you can see it, it's not a bad investment, although I wouldn't say it's worth the investment on its own.
Apple TV+ has tons of science-fiction, like #ForAllMankind, #Severance, #HelloTomorrow, #See or #Invasion (on top of #Silo and #Foundation which you've mentioned).
Welcome to #TransTuesday! Here we are, finally at the end! It’s part nine THE UNINTENTIONAL (?) TRANS ALLEGORY OF #silo! Tillyvison now in 3D, it’s time to Silo up! Everything’s been leading here, and the ending maybe isn’t what you think it is!
We're gonna talk how even those at the top buy into the lies, and how community is VITAL to all of us making it through.
#MastoSerie#SFFF
More about the trans allegory of #Silo on AppleTV+? You better believe it!
This week we cover episodes 4 and 5 of the show, and we're gonna talk about trans childhood trauma, eggs cracking, and how the truth can unlock the doors in front of you.
