General inbound federation question

@Wander is everything working as expected for inbound federation? casual conversations moved from lemmy.world to lemm.ee I don’t see any comments or votes in the lemm.ee community from before yiffit was aware of its existence. I think I’ve seen this other places too, so I don’t know if this is how its supposed to work, or...

Bob Mortimer on WILTY, and I think he did it on Taskmaster too.

Does this mean you really can download RAM?

I think, but not sure, so long as you are federated with the community you can see comments and posts from everyone, its just the communities hosted on the defederated instance that you can’t see.

So I just checked from .ml on !furry . I didn’t see any of my posts, but looking at some of the big communities on .world, I can see posts from users of .ml

I’m just used to the receiving end and know I can see posts from users on instances that have defederated from us, just nothing hosted on the instance itself.

From poking around, its a little more complicated than that. I can sometimes see new things, especially if no one is subscribed, but after the initial connection, no more posts are seen.

Could it be because nobody from there is subbed here? I know federation can be weird if there is no subscriptions.

But who took her out? My money would be on the flying Chili.

I bet Luna makes good muffins.

There is something about the color and faces that is always inviting.

ultimately I think the final decision is up to @Wander, I just put the poll together with all the suggested names. giffit is at least a cleaver use of a meme, and not a complete shitpost.

TF fan had me looking if I could find any TF -> Fan, no luck.

The only consistent problem with the interoperability, is the lack of discovery.

That happens all the time with links, If you clicked on this link you’d wind up here again, but on yiffit instead of pawb. Similarly, if I’m browsing some instance and find something I want to comment on, its a bit of a task to find the post on my home instance to make a comment. There are a couple tools around, but it would be nice if there was something built in to take you back to the same spot in your home instance.

The discovery bit is federation is not automatic. If nobody has visited something, you can’t even search to find it. You have to go find it elsewhere, go home and search for that specifically so it could be found again. And if nobody is subscribed, it won’t update. Its still very rough around the edges.

careful with that in this post. So many of the replies here are from kbin accounts. In fact I’ve never seen so many. When initially making my account here, I did glance at kbin, but I just didn’t like how it presented itself.

I made a poll if you want to use the results. Responses seem to have stopped coming in. yiffit.net/post/7940752

Glad the upgrade was painless. @awoos has made a naming comment for your consideration
