I don't know if multilingual people face this, but sometimes when I want to speak Mandarin and I am trying to remember a word, my 🧠 unhelpfully provides the word in a different language.
So sometimes I end up speaking Mandarin and Hokkien at the same time 😅

@stephanie I am glad because sometimes I worry when this happens hahaha

I would have no problem (I would, but manageable) living in Taiwan or Japan but I would be really terrified to live in the US.
From small things like anxiety about tipping (I’m European, we have salaries that usually allow you to live) to big things like the health system. Terrified.

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@yaohsi I still wince at my bad tipping habits from the first few years visiting the US for work. I once didn't tip the porter bringing the bags because I didn't realise that I should and thought it was an option 😬 I still wince at that memory. Sorry Mr Porter, I really didn't know 😅

I always dread it when an old uncle sits next to me at a cafe. Because he will inevitably pull out his phone and watch his reels with speakers on and then I'll have this uncomfortable conversation where I ask him to please turn it down, then he tells me that I don't have to listen.

Pretty much hate how disrespectful people are about this issue in Malaysia. Crying babies/toddlers, speaker phones etc. They just don't care if they're spoiling the quiet environment of a cafe with their noise.

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

PS; One of my major ADHD symptoms is intolerance to noise. It jacks up my anxiety levels (cos of overwhelm) and my impulsivity drives me to fly into a rage and say something inappropriate. Needless to say, it takes a lot of mental strength to prevent this.

@bignose that's the attitude of most people in Malaysia really, not even seniors 😅They just don't get why they should nother with you

Just finished Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, and it was a delight for Rang to finally get that happy ending he deserved. The first Nine Tailed was bittersweet and I felt shattered for his sake, even if it was a fitting ending for him. This drama was the perfect love letter for his character.
And dangit, Lee Dong Wook needs to do more dramas with long, flowing hair. He rocks that look.

Though I have to say ... it is a tad on the nose with the nationalistic fervour, though it is perfectly understandable for that period when Korea was colonised by Japan. Now, if this was a #CDrama, I know that they'd be shouts of "I'm not watching this because it's propaganda" already lol

Couldn't believe that my guess about the central secret of The Joy of Life was correct!
Props to the writer for skirting the weird tie travel censorship in this creative way even if the beginning scene with the novelist made me go WTF. This is a drama that defied my expectations even if the sets made me go OMG HENG DIAN with each scene and the outfits sometimes make me go WTF ARE THEY WEARING?

I'm now trying to decide what to watch next and looking at the current slate of dramas, it'll probably be continue and start . Though if I want to be more ahem, responsible, I should pick from this list I created for myself 😛

The one reason why I want to learn is so that I could program my computer to copy my social media posts and just stuff them into my Daily Note automatically. Ambitious or impossible? lol

It is indeed an odd experience to be part of the 1% of the human population who was not swept up by the craze and kept failing to be swept up by it despite numerous times trying to.

I tried reading the novel, watched the donghua and even the and could not last more than a couple of episodes. People tell me to "soldier on" for a few more EPs but I couldn't I just couldn't.

Also tried reading the author's other books & just 😴

I think my 🧠 is built diff or something

@LianaBrooks somehow you feel like, what are they seeing that I am not? In the end I can only give up and declare this as one of the biggest mysteries in the universe 😆

@loke it is a hyper popular Cdrama with lots of homoerotic subtext 😁

@geraineon but but I would like to understand why people like it 😆

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@geraineon I did try the Seven Seas version, and part of what out me off is the er, Americanisms that occasionally pop up. It took me out of the moment and made the novel feel very juvenile 😅

Am continuing my practice of typing out Chinese words and using them in proper sentences. I suspect I'm able to do this only because I have a foundation in Mandarin, and have intermediate listening skills. So a lot of my sentences are based on instinct not on remembering grammatical rules. I plug what I write in ChatGPT/Copilot to check if they're right.
They keep saying I am.
I am feeling suss lol.
Anyway folks, do we say 风很大 ? (It's windy) It feels odd.
