Finished #ThousandAutumns vol.3. story is great but writing isn't as great. Or maybe the translation isn't great? Lots of telling rather than showing (we know the characters is awesome, but show us don't tell us why), lots of repetitive paragraphs about plots as if the reader has the memory of a gerbil and forgets plot points by the next chapter. Prob has something to do with its webnovel structure. The editor in me wants to pick up my red pen and hack away 🤪
Still, I enjoyed it.
Edit - mistakenly thought Meng Xi Shi wrote the Untamed books lol
But anyway it looks like I just like this author better maybe because it feels like a very classic wuxia tale and the characters better developed. I found Yan Wushi interesting even if I found Shen Qiao annoying for his boy scout ways.
Just finished reading first volume of “Thousand Autumns” by Meng Xi Shi 🌸 It is an information dense first book in a series that mixes the martial world with actual Chinese history. The main couple have met & there’s lots of foreshadowing + one-sided banter but no romance.
The characterization of Shen Qiao & Yan Wushi gives them both distinct personalities that spark off each other. Plot & character development are intricately woven together.
Just read chapter 17 of volume 1 in “Thousand Autumns” 🌸 The relationships between characters are deepening. Chen Gong’s betrayal of Shen Qiao was resonant, because it was a logical consequence of who he was but it is still sad that he made that decision.
The companionship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi is fun to follow. They are very different people which makes for a good, thematic dynamic. Well written!
@geraineon Just finished the first volume of #ThousandAutumns 🌸 It takes a while to acclimatize to all the information that’s thrown at the reader but it all seems to have a place and purpose. The relationships between the characters are well done and so the betrayals & conflicts feel real.
There is a nice teasing aspect to the nascent relationship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi. They are very different but they respect each other even though they don’t really like each other at this point.
@geraineon That sounds promising 😄 The kiss in chapter 38 would indicate that we are heading in that direction although it is complicated on many levels. Right now I’m on chapter 41 where Shen Qiao protects Yan Wushi for the first time. It’s a nice change of pace.
I’m on the last legs of my Easter holiday so I’m allowing myself to indulge in leisure reading and #ThousandAutumns is a pleasurable read. It takes a while to become immersed but then it is quite rewarding. Good quality writing!
"If talking to Yan Wushi in the past had him raging himself to an early grave, then talking to Yan Wushi right now was like raging to death and then being brought back to life by the force of that same rage."
I was inspired by a scene in the donghua where yan wushi has the peach blossom in his hand.
This time he gifted an entire branch for his love. :blobhai::twitter_heart:
The flowers to draw were hard :polarbear_crying:
I drew Shen Qiao with the eng novel clothes because I loved the colors
…I cant draw backgrounds so a blurred image of the blossom field will do… #thousandautumns#qianqiu#yanshen#danmei
I'm Mura, gekidasa on practically every platform and @_alivealife_ on the birdsite. I like to make websites and sometimes I write. I came here back in November when so many did, and wandered away, mostly.
Anyway, I'm hoping to find people that have joined since.
After finishing first volume of Thousand Autumns my conclusion is that we shouldn't ask if Yan Wushi would sell us to Satan for one corn chip BUT when exactly it's gonna happen xD
