To be honest I'd start by asking them why it's set up like that as diplomatically as possible. This might be a bad solution, but what pushed them to adopt it nevertheless might be an organizational peculiarity you don't want to find the hard way.

Yes! There’s the vibe of course, but there’s also being able to open it up and fix it… if it even breaks at all.

Impressive and inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

My kid made some Bluetooth speakers at school in a technology workshop some days ago! They sound pretty bad. 😅 But it got me thinking how satisfying it must be to really take the time to build some nice speakers. That would be a step up in complexity from PC building for sure.

It’s a strangely fascinating experiment. Gives me flashbacks from scribbling messages on desks in high school.

The Lemmy User Experience is Better When Centralized into Fewer Instances

Most people access the Fediverse through one of the large instances: lemmy.world, kbin, or beehaw. New or small instances of Lemmy have no content by default, and can most easily get content by linking to larger Lemmy instances. This is done manually one "Community" at a time (I spent 15 minutes doing this yesterday). Meanwhile,...

I don't want an experience similar to Reddit though. I want a small active community with shared values and a variety of subjects.

13 years account here. I’ve been postponing doing the same thing. In the last months I’ve grown opposed to Facebook, then Twitter, then finally Reddit. I’ve come to the conclusion that any form of corporate social media is harmful to individuals and communities.

Every discussion you’ve had has contributed to how you are today and that remains.

And done. Bye Musk. Bye Zuck. By Spez.

You’re conflating the platform owners with their users. In case that wasn’t clear, I’m criticizing the former. There are many users doing good, but the platform owners are ultimately there to monetize the users’ attention and will mess with the way people relate to each other and to the world in the process.

Also maybe chill? I never said "I didn’t learn a single thing while I was there" and I don’t get how you "have to question how I was using it" to understand what I’m getting at.

Aaaaaaah this is so loud and pissed and wild and fun! Those are some serious shits and giggles.

Thanks. I don't see the need for federating with everything under the sun. Screw the trolls.

Big takeaway here is that the embryo created with this technique in animals never could be grown into a live individual. And that science is progressing much faster than law. I'd add that it's progressing faster than ethics as well.

Witcher 3 is a fun game and an acclaimed one at that, so the following is just my personal experience. Not taking away anything from it... but playing a superhuman hunk constantly bumping into sexy young witches thirsty for you felt to me very, very cheesy.

Investing time and effort sharing know how and knowledge on a corporate social media was a mistake.

The Internet is intrinsically ephemeral. Data is always a few pulled wires away from going offline. Digital support lifespan is surprisingly short. Those aren’t stone slabs. Even paper lasts longer. The Internet’s strength is the distribution. For the data to endure, you need dedicated resources and individuals. Enthusiasts. Guardians. Professionals. If the responsible organization’s goal is profit, it’s doomed from the start.

Same for me, first Bandcamp then 7digital. When neither have what I’m looking for, I’ll check on Discogs for a used CD.

Step by step debugging is very enlightening when it comes to inspecting execution. If your current setup doesn’t include that, I’d strongly suggest to revise it.

Must be somewhat alike to the beets, quinoa and goat cheese salad I made once. Good stuff! I loved it, but I was pretty much the only one. My family's difficult with food :/

I believe recursive CTEs are pretty cool for tree traversal. Anytime you’ve got a table with a foreign key on its own primary key they might come in handy.

TLDR: to look for resources, and for science. Or for the flex. Maybe a little bit of everything.

In the end it seems like they're not 100% sure what they'll get out of it, which is kind of cool in a way.

It's so good to see Beehaw taking off. I hope it endures. I'm giving it a little more time then I'm closing account on all corporate social media for good.

luciole,

I’ve been thinking about it. I do hope Beehaw grows enormously to be vibrant and diverse and lively, but it’s OK too if in the end it’s not the ultimate, humongous, massive instance. Maybe there’s such a thing as a community that becomes too big. There’s something precious about "human scale" places.

Dragon Quest XI would be sweet for a beginner I think! It’s not too complex and it’s so full of charm.

This sort of circus is what happens with communities led by corporate greed. I’m taking a deep breath and I’m letting go.
