My week has been one of growth.

Over the past couple of months, my wife and I have been having lots of drama because she’s polyamorous, but I’m innately monogamous (at least thus far).

She has a boyfriend now and it’s been a struggle, but I’ve finally accepted/realized that there’s no actual threat of her leaving (which was the core source of my anxiety and jealousy).

So we’re doing awesome now! We still have sex, snuggle, and generally carry on as normal, just that she also has someone who is satisfying that need to experience new relationships.

So overall, my week is going great

Loving it so far, signed up for Ultra as Sync has always been awesome.

Community thoughts on Sun Sail anchored to house fascia

I was thinking of installing a shade sail to my house with 2 of the points anchored to my house. The type of sail I'm installing is a square type I found on Amazon. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this is safe in the event of high winds? Some videos I've found suggests the most you need to do is make sure you're tying...

I would recommend doing something like what I did in this photo. I originally just did a simple hook like you posted, but some very high winds bent it, and it was somewhat loose - I still don't know how it stayed in.

I cut a piece of angled steel, drilled holes, and painted with white Plastidip. Then used some nylon spacers with the marine hook. I have not had any issues at all, it's been 7 months and they're rock solid.

Yeah. There are also 2x4s running parallel behind the fascia (which are attached to the rafters), so it's really sturdy and anchored.

Yes, they are metal pipes/fittings that I got from Lowe's (local hardware store). I used a spray paint with the term "hammered" in the name, it gives a nice textured metal coating, since they don't look this nice off the store shelves!

I used strong dish soap and a scrub brush to get them dirt and grease free, then assembled and put them in the oven at 200 degrees (F) for 30 minutes to dry. Then put on rubber gloves to handle (no skin oils) and painted them. Have had no issues with the paint chipping off or anything like that.

Thanks! Yeah I always loved reading that sub for ideas and inspiration.

I made the sub use a transmission line for porting, which you can see in the full gallery.

This gives it a really low frequency response, but takes up a lot of room.

If he enjoys electronics and music, then I definitely recommend encouraging his journey into this direction! I would be okay with you asking questions in this thread if you need any help/guidance/resources.

I tried the exciters, it was neat...but not great sound fidelity. But still a fun little concept which definitely has uses.

Just chiming in to say that while I can understand some people's frustration, I support this.

The community here is great and I'd like it to stay that way.

In real life, I choose to associate with good people and avoid areas where the quality of people who can show is completely unpredictable or not my taste.

i prefer a chill bar with quiet outside seating and no live music. I go there specifically because I'm not looking for a biker bar experience.

I see it as a strength to the fediverse. It's no different than different forums back in the day. I do understand that my above statement would be akin to different communities, but I agree that even if someone's behavior is only "bad" in a community where that was acceptable, it does affect the community as a whole, knowing that they're lurking (in terms of feeling like this is a safe space).

Keep up the good work, and thank you for having to make these difficult decisions; I know it's not easy.

That's my sentiment as well. It's just a transition period.

roblarky,
@roblarky@beehaw.org avatar

That's what I think, those who are actually interested in managing a quality sub will likely learn how the fediverse works and move, since the quality of people here will, on average, be higher than the unwashed masses.

I was literally just looking into this as well!

Like I'm signed up to beehaw, but say if I go to sh.itjust.works I can view communities, but subscribe asks to login

Sync was amazing! Not a chance in hell I'll use anything else.

I decided to setup a recurring donation to Beehaw in place of my reddit subscription.

In principle, I'm over reddit even if that backtracked. I've been reddit free for 4 days now.

Multiple devs, but yeah...same here, I'm done with reddit.

Yeah, I'm on the Tropical Weather discord and they announced they're going dark, likely for good.

Same, it's a breath of invigorating fresh air!

I've spent the last few days working on a chat window plugin for Lord of the Rings Online.

Their API is rough and abandoned, lol

So is there any way for me to help in terms of load distribution? Still figuring out this federated stuff.

Let's say beehaw for example.

I don't think (?) I want to create my own instance to moderate or whatever, but am I able to create an instance which is like a node to help with load/volume?

Or is that a matter of beehaw needing beefier servers/bandwidth? Meaning it comes down to financial contribution (which I've already set a monthly donation for).

I haven't used reddit in 3 days now, completely fine with the great community here.

Tampa area here. Bought a house 5 years ago which we love, and we love the climate...so here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Hope it gets better at some point, but not holding our breath!
