lud,

You don’t have to answer everyone already knows. This question was directed at .ml users.

lud,

I have never understood why people still like 7.

I thought it was decent when I last used it, but Win 10 is much better.

7 is fairly ugly and has a lot of missing stuff for 10.

lud,

The most regular pc user probably only got a work computer that runs 10 or 11 and they will likely have no choice since most companies don’t support Linux clients. My work actually does which is neat. I would absolutely use Linux at work, if working with Windows wasn’t my job.

Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again (www.engadget.com)

Spotify is officially raising its Premium subscription rates in the US come July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 monthly and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 monthly — the same jump as last year’s $1 and $2 price hikes, respectively. However, its Family plan...

lud,

It’s way cheaper though.

lud,

You can switch to another service any time you want though.

lud,

I remember being stoked when IOS 7 came out because it looked so much better when the design was overhauled to be flat.

I personally don’t like Aero too much. Win 7 looks decent but I prefer the look and simplicity in Windows 10.

lud,

I like flat design.

I feel like everyone here just prefers the design they grew up with.

lud,

All the communities still appear to be very active though.

lud,

Reddit for sure. But I absolutely refuse to use their app so I use it in the web browser but not a lot because reddit sucks on mobile. So I mostly use Lemmy on my phone.

On desktop I use both.

lud,

It’s still insane that politicians are involved AT ALL in the justice system.

lud,

I thought that the USA never signed the ICC agreement.

lud,

Comparing apples to oranges are we?

lud,

Unfortunately banking apps are a necessity for lots of people.

Workers at TJ Maxx and Marshalls are wearing police-like body cameras. Here’s how it’s going (www.cnn.com)

Retail chains like TJX, the parent company of TJ Maxx and Marshalls, are equipping some store employees with body cameras to deter shoplifting and improve safety. This is part of a growing trend in the retail industry, as stores respond to an increase in organized retail theft and violence against workers. However, some...

lud,

That camera wouldn’t help because wage theft isn’t a crime that employees can do. By definition only an employer can commit wage theft because wage theft is stealing from employees.

Using the time clock incorrectly isn’t wage theft.
Not paying holiday pay or paying below minimum wage is wage theft.

lud,

True, but if it genuinely works really well then does it really matter? Seems like the change would be a net positive.

lud,

If a police department gets tricked into Swatting an innocent party due to a fraudulent call to 911, the entire department should be disbanded and replaced with officers who do due diligence before busting people’s doors down.

But what if it’s actually serious?

lud, (edited )

Yeah, lots of people did similar things for Ukrainian bombs and shells. Even though they were much more likely to hit combatants, it still felt really weird to write memes on stuff that likely will kill someone (yes even a Russian war criminal). It just felt inhumane.

lud,

You can use an app which supports hiding posts.

Sync has supported it since day one.

lud,

Yeah “shit” is somewhat of an exaggeration.

My problems with Lemmy are mainly:

  • Few users
  • Few communities
  • Few posts
  • Few comments
  • Extremely focused on just a couple of topics like Linux, Communism, Star Trek, LGBTQ (nothing against Linux or LGBTQ though) variation is desperately needed
  • Extremely filter bubbly.
lud,

Hell no. It’s embarrassing as fuck to recommend Lemmy to anyone you know. It’s still fairly shit imo.

lud,

Yeah, zero-days are usually expensive because attackers like to keep them pre zero-days once they are discovered their value diminishes significantly. So they are usually used for high value targets and not on random people downloading movies.

I'm a hot commodity! (lemmy.world)

After someone mentioned me without tagging me on the Return2Ozma thread drama, I decided to Lemmy search my name to see what else I was missing out on. I didn’t realize I was so popular with the “People who defend tankies” demographic of Lemmy! Apparently, I’m a brainrotted liberal debate lord (simultanously, without any...

lud,

I doubt bruteforce has been used in one of these attacks. The service should detect a bot entering many combinations per second.

The main problem with SMS is that someone could social engineer the mobile operator support to give them a new SIM.

Probably not something you should worry too much about unless you are in any way a target, but still.
