How long before the psychotic far-right starts to boycott Apple, starts smashing their Macs and iPhones, & begin claiming that Apple is “indoctrinating children”?

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@marioguzman I'm thinking… it's not something new that Apple has only started doing this month, if someone wanted to switch away from an iPhone to boycott them for this, I think they've already noticed by now

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@marioguzman I still feel like Apple is just… a too big and too strong opponent for them to try to bully, or even boycott. But I guess I may be underestimating their craziness…

@marioguzman I spilled a mug of cocoa once into my Atari sometime around 1990… I still have trauma from this 😅

@marioguzman oh no 😅 did it survive?

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@marioguzman wow, that turned out to be a pretty good deal then :) we don't even have AppleCare+ here, so I gotta be careful…

Funny to think that by my age, my parents already had 3 kids -- one being already 10 years old. Me, I just recently got a cat. lol

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@marioguzman Yeah… I also periodically remind myself of the fact that at my current age my dad had an 11-year-old son and I don't even have a cat, and I feel a bit bad about it 😬

The next macOS should be a “Snow Leopard” kind of release. They could call it macOS “San Buenaventura” — but then it becomes tied to religion and we don’t need that. So never mind on the name.

@marioguzman We ask for this basically every year and we never get this

Is it safe to set up auth_socket authentication (without a password) in for the dev user on the server that I log in with and run webapps as? I'm thinking that since I'd need to put the password in config files like database.yml for the apps to connect, anyone who gets access to that account can access those databases anyway, so there should be no difference, right? 🤔 https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/socket-pluggable-authentication.html

4th death in eye drop outbreak; now 81 cases, 14 blinded, and 4 lost eyeballs

Bacteria in the recalled drops are so drug-resistant, docs turn to phage therapy.

  1. obviously not
  2. probably not
  3. yes
  4. yes? (I'm not sure how much of ActivityPub is pull vs push)
helge, to random
@helge@mastodon.social avatar

What if Apple would announce iCloud Fediverse support at . Wouldn't have to be Mastodon specifically, but maybe a "refreshed" Ping for music stuff, something for photo people like Pixelfed etc. Client integration all over.
Apart from the technical stuff (which seems totally doable) they could probably get the content producers people are interested in to participate. Extra points for releasing the driving code as 😬

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@helge Nah, not gonna happen… I think it's still too early and Apple doesn't like to get into things that got popular but not really mainstream yet (e.g. anything crypto-related). Too risky to spend company effort to get into things that may not work out and turn out to be was wasted time. And they probably feel burned after all their previous attempts at anything social.

Current status: going down the rabbit hole of "is it better to have to recompile Passenger module from Nginx source, or find some way to fake a satisfied dependency to apt, or have two independent Ruby installations that could get mixed up"… 😵‍💫

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

Ok, it seems to be working… 🤔 There is this tool called 'equivs' that allows you to create a fake package that "provides" any other package you want, so I used it to tell apt that the Ruby dependencies that the Passenger package needs are installed:

@gracjan That's true… I use everything I can 😂 but with Safari as the primary browser because the UI just feels lighter and faster in some almost imperceptible way. Firefox feels the least native of those, but sometimes I just need one more browser.

Any Raspberry people here? What's better for a server (with Nginx, Ruby, MySQL) - Raspberry Pi OS or Ubuntu?

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@wikiyu nope, display (HDMI) only to set it up. I was just thinking that I read some blog posts and they said Ubuntu is less optimized for RPi, so does it mean it will potentially be slower?
